Love the majority, but TW there’s weird sex stuff for very young characters. It parades itself as consensual, but the whole development feels super contrived and is a cop-out to justify a poor writing decision 🤮
Graphic: Sexual content
A huge book, well worth the effort, even if it wipes out your reading targets for the year. Delivers for both of its very different target audiences.

The beginning, wonderful.
Towards the end, disgusting.
A lot of you calling this book a masterpiece but that sex plot at the end? Was that necessary? No.
Was it necessary to talk about animal cruelty which added nothing to the plot? No.
I love the movies. Hate this book.

Stephen King writes in a way that is so captivating and encapsulating that i couldnt put this book down. I was completely engaged and invested into the characters and their lives, both young and old.
The suspense kept building up but not in an unsatisfying/annoying way, instead you felt like it served a purpose (bc it did) and so it never felt like the book dragged despite the 1100 pages.
As is custom with King novels, the ending was disappointing tho.
The Ritual of Chüd at some point became so utterly confusing with the deadlights and the turtle being dead at the end?? Who’s the author? it got so philosophical and spiritual that it lost me for a sec.
Also im sure im not the first one to say this but the sex scene between actual children was so unnecessary and grotesque and i wish he had just left that out.
But still, inspite of the ending, this has been such a great novel to read.

This past week, I've lived with one foot here in my own life and surroundings, and one foot shaking and planted in the fictional town of Derry, Maine. Now I finally emerge again, dazed and reeling a bit from the conclusion of this giant novel.
Stephen King is a master of horror, that is definitely true, but he is more than that; King is an undisputed master of storytelling. And "IT" is his veritable magnum opus. It is a terrifying, compelling, disturbing and a dizzyingly epic narrative. If you're ready for something of this caliber, both the nature of the content and length, you won't be disappointed. Despite any shortcomings made more evident by the passing of decades since original publication (and yes, I'm specifically referencing issues of female characters and their depth of dimension) , the story stands the test a of time. "IT" might very well be the longest novel you ever read, and one you'll never forget.
