It starts off really good, but it lost me somewhere in the middle. Eagerly finished it, though. Also, a turtle? What the hell?

Good lord. This book has me so utterly torn. There is so much of worth here, gems of real clarity and brilliance that are diluted and undermined by so much more tiresome unending exhausting drivel.

meh

This book took a while to read but boy was it worth it! Other than the over description of women and their bodies as well as the whole fiasco at the end of chapter 21, this is one of the best books that I’ve read.

This book is obviously very long so it did in fact take a while to read but when it’s listened to with the audiobook it makes it just that much better. I would recommend reading the book first and then watching to movie because the book had a lot of detailed that the movie doesn’t include.

But if you’re like me and you’re a visual person then you would watch the movies just to see what the characters look like and to be able to compare and contrast the events from the book.

If I could read this book again then I would probably read it faster than I did the first time because it did take a while to get to the good part.

I genuinely wanted to like this book; I felt like it was pretty interesting and impactful from the start and enjoyed the timeline jumping around as much as it did.

And then...the 2nd half of the book happened. It felt a little gratuitous and I'm not entirely sure who he was gratifying. The book had many disturbing points towards the end that felt random and unnecessary.

The scary moments also didn't have the impact that I was hoping for. They didn't seem to reflect all the anticipation that was built up for them. I'm also starting to dislike King's writing style because nearly all the characters sound the same- children, hot bimbos, gruff main characters. He uses the same descriptions in all of his books and includes so much unnecessary nonsense that the book drolls on feeling like it takes hours to get to the next action.

SpoilerThere were plot holes that favored the villains like Bev's sister calling the operator and being told that it would take a long time to take all the numbers down for all the hotels...but then Henry KNOWS they are at the townhouse because "that's the only hotel in Dary". This is a theme in Kings books.
Many plot lines felt to have completely fell through without coming to fruition...Bev's exhusband chasing her down but not getting that incredible visual of a showdown? Disappointment.

And so much of the end really seemed to shine a light on the drug haze King must have been in without seeming to add anything to the story. Turtles, An ethereal plane of sorts, prepubescent uglies- oof. I know a large part of the book is to bring out some discomfort but felt that the best part of the story wasn't played on as well as it should have been with him falling back on weird tropes.

In addition to all of that, the language was as to be expected with King novels but felt especially uncomfortable in this one. The sheer amount of racial slurs ircks you. The ethereal turtle wasn't eloquent which admittedly bothered me more than it should. I did enjoy the audio book's reader's different voices for each accent and character as there were plentttty.
