Honestly thought this was the collection when I ordered it from the library, but no, it's just the novella itself. Lamb orders Ho to carry out an unusual assignment, and Ho wonders what things would be like if he'd never been around. Slough House has a visitor. The Slow Horses plan on having Christmas drinks. Without Ho. Short, sour, festive, scabrous, but does clear up something of a long-running cliffhanger as a reward to constant readers and a consolation, presumably, because Herron's next isn't a Slough House book, and waiting for the book after that would be a bit much even for Lamb. Well, no, not him. But still.

Contrary to the blurb, this is a terrible introduction to the Slough House series, but it’s fantastic backstory for those already engaged.

A little disappointed as I didn't realise the first 3 novella had already been published. The other two were good but I think you need to have read Herron's other works for the last one to truly make sense.

When you love the Slough House series, a short story is a gem. I’ve been holding off on this one to listen to as a treat.

When Jackson Lamb receives a gift through the post from a friend at the Park, he needs Roddy Ho to help him make it more appropriate. Meanwhile the rest of the team are looking forward to a Christmas break. Short but delightful.

I listened to the audio, narrated by the brilliant Sean Barrett.
