These is a lot I really like about this book.

First, you could tell the author is from the place she writing about.

While it doesn't focus on it much, I like the discussion it has on the importance on having diverse books in the library.

Then there is the relationship. It was great. I understand the hesitation, because both characters have harbored feelings for someone else for a long time.

oooooo girl this HURT

I enjoyed this book to begin with but the last third was a but of a mess and I found myself skimming more and more. Time started moving at a weird pace and the main character spent too much time in her head. I also found Alice’s resolution to be too quick and easy, and it and Ben somewhat underdeveloped.

I really liked this story. It was fun, I was rooting for Marcela and Theo the whole story and was so mad at how Marcela kept self sabotaging throughout the book. But, the book felt like it needed a second or third round of checks and edits. I found myself having to re-read sentences and paragraphs because I constantly felt like I was missing something. At one critical “a-ha” moment Marcela says “I have to go” to end a conversation, and then the next chapter just picks up later in the week with no context of why she would have said that. The spicy scenes also felt forgotten about, there was lots of good tension and then it felt like you were questioning if they actually finished. I’m glad I read it and I will be checking out the authors next release this summer in hopes that she found a better editor.

The Next Best Fling was quite an enjoyable read! I adored Marcela and Theo, and Angela's character was a wonderful addition to the story. Ben and Alice were, well, Ben and Alice. I did think we would get a bit more wedding based interactions/events, as the engagement party had been what spurred Marcela and Theo's whole... situationship along.

I also felt like some background pieces were missing... like Theo was an NFL player so shouldn't he be loaded? I felt like there were times where Theo was portrayed as very middle class/average, when that shouldn't have been the case. He was so recently out of the NFL that I felt like he could have had some interactions with old teammates or fans or something. Overall the ex-NFL player thing felt like a prop but not a reality.
