I am in absolutely piss poor form and to be fair that's not this book's fault but it sure didn't help. At least this was an easy read because it's got literally nothing else going for it. No chemistry✨. Boring characters ✨. Not enough self respect ✨. Trite storylines, not enough on page investment, and the sheer Sisyphean effort of pulling this fucking boulder to the finish line ✨ ✨✨.

What I liked: this author made me like a blonde MMC!!! Theo was so mature, open, honest, and vulnerable! I loved that the FMC Marcela is a librarian with a passion for ensuring kids have access to a diverse array of YA books. I liked the plus-size rep as well, I feel like it was well-done for the most part without leaning too much into any fatphobic tropes. The chemistry was there. And at the end of the day, I was happy for Alice bc f*** Ben.

What I didn’t like: the issues around all the secrets being kept got repetitive for me, and I wished Marcela would have been as upfront with Theo as he was with her starting earlier in the book! And I was so mad at her spoiling that amazing date!

I enjoyed this one, it was a quick read on audiobook.
I’m excited to read the next book about Angela!

.25 of a point off for the unnecessary third-act breakup, .25 of a point on for the excellent soundtrack.

I read one person's review who talked about too much internal monologuing and I agree. I also think that happens more when a story is written only from one character's point of view. Everything felt too wishy washy and I wanted a bigger smack down on Ben. I don't know. The book just left me feeling meh.
