I wanted to love this so much but I think the whole plot was just entirely too toxic, wasn’t for me

This was a great examples of imperfect characters. They all had issues to work through and things they weren’t saying out loud. I liked that both main characters had to really self reflect and see what they really wanted out of relationships. The fact that Marcela started to really see Ben for the person he was showed how much she was growing. Ben is lowkey a piece of shit with his own mountain of problems. Theo was a dream of a man. He was so sweet to everyone around him and worked so hard to prove to Marcela that he cared about her. Really cute book. 🌶️🌶️🌶️ with a third act breakup

The Next Best Fling wasn't for me, unfortunately. I think this book had really great potential and had some cute moments but I couldn't follow the pacing and writing style. I felt like there were moments that were really slowed down and moments that sped up too fast and had big time jumps. I personally didn't enjoy the insta love between the two main characters either. I felt like there was potential to really work on their relationship and story but it was hit or miss. I don't think this was too much of the authors issue because a lot of people seem to enjoy the book. I think it's just my personal preference and interests that got missed when it comes to contemporary romance. I did enjoy some cute moments and it seems to be highly enjoyed by most people but it just wan't for me.

This was a solid read. The emotions, the chemistry, the trauma, the friendships were all great. I don't want to give anyone away in my review so that's all I'll say about the plot.

🎧 This audiobook had a single female narrator, as the whole book is first person from the FMC's perspective.

🌶️ 4.25/5 for a handful of explicit scenes

🏳️‍🌈✊ We have Latine rep in the FMC and several side characters in her life. Another side character is East Asian. We also have an asexual side character. FMC is also fat.
