So.... I have an exam coming up. And I did not study at all today. Because I was hooked to this book and couldn't put it away until I finished it. Which was like two seconds ago.
I freaked out so many times while reading this book, that my neighbours must think that my parents torture me, or that I recieve exciting news every ten minutes, or something else.
Point is, so many things happen in this book, and it is really hard to stop reading. Or laughing. Or being hooked.
Because of the different points of view, the story is even more interesting then it would be with just a 'normal' narrator (get the joke? .... normal ;). And because everyone keeps secrets from each other and many things are unexplained, it is very nice to watch the plot unfold itself
5/5 stars!! Loved it!

knowing rainbow rowell's reputation when it comes to writing problematic factors in her books, i came into this book expecting something of the sort (ex. fetishizing a gay relationship, including a woman of color in her book for brownie points, etc.). however, what i received was a very enjoyable book with two queer main characters, an ingenious way of spell casting, and a plot that kept me gripped through every page.
- at the beginning of the book, i thought simon was a bit of a whiny bitch, not gonna lie. but as i kept reading, i felt for him and the pressures he was going through in regards to his magic. was he a fraud? was he truly the chosen one? and does he really wish for a happily ever after with agatha? the fact that he has to team up with his archnemesis to solve a murder AND end the being that could possibly destroy the World of Mages doesn't make this any better. his development through these ups and downs was something i really liked as well as how they address his trauma briefly after everything he had gone through.
- tyrannus basilton grimm-pitch was my absolute favorite character. his attitude, humor, and his way with words are some things i adore. his love for simon made my heart ache, and every time i read from his pov, i was the most invested. i related to how he doesn't like talking about feelings but has managed to open up little by little towards simon, which is development!! his bickering and slow building friendship with simon was also something that i enjoyed, and i hope to see more of this in the future :)
- penelope is a great friend. i like how she's always been comfortable around simon (which shows that people of the opposite gender can have a platonic relationship!!) and how even though she herself has said she does not yet trust baz, i could see that she at least considered him a friend. i wish i could have seen more to her, though, not gonna lie.
- let's talk about agatha! a lot of people don't like her, myself included. but after reading some reviews and talking to some friends, i think that agatha had a role in this story. she shows that magic is not for everyone, and she only wishes to live a normal life. i don't have much to say about her, since after i heard about her purpose, i'm pretty neutral towards her character.
- the book, however, had VERY FEW things that made me feel a bit icky. "maybe you have post-traumatic stress disorder. maybe you're not used to this much peace and quiet." (page 127) and "she picks up a sandwich and sits on snow's bed, crossing her legs. i could see right up her skirt if i felt like it—and if i tipped my head a bit." (page 249) yeah, rainbow rowell writes things in her books that are there, but they sound wrong and don't really serve a purpose other than "comedic relief" or are just plain problematic. despite this, i felt like they did not really decrease my enjoyability of the book, and the good clearly outweighs the bad, so i let it slide.
overall, this book was great! i would read it again if i ever get the chance.

The only bad thing about this book is that it finish! The chatacters are awesome, the plot is good and the end is totally unexpected.
Ok, i admit that there are a lot of similarities with Harry Potter, but honestly, WHO CARES?
THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!!
