This was one of my most anticipated books of the year and it did not disappoint. My chronic illness differs from Tessa's, but I still found this book to be incredibly relatable. I also liked how it was part memoir and part educational. I want everyone in my life to read this so they can better understand living with a chronic illness.

This book is not sugar coated, it's honest and raw and at times painful. It challenges our view of how we expect those with illness to either get better or die. I really enjoyed learning about chronic illness and I think it will help me better approach and support those that I know and meet with chronic illness.
I also thought that Miller did an excellent job of being aware of her privilege as a cis, white woman. She is very upfront about only speaking to her experience and how she understands that there are others who have additional struggles that she does not have because of her privilege.
Miller provides a ton of resources throughout the book and via an appendix in the back of the book. This is a read that anyone and everyone can get something from!

So if you are reading this as a primer on Crohn’s, you’ll get some great information, especially if you are a US patient. But you will also get a lot of personal chapters that you would expect from a memoir.
Having Crohn’s can feel isolating as most people don’t love much “bathroom” talk so I appreciate anyone willing to share their story so I can feel a little less alone.
