2.5ish stars...possibly 3 if I am feeling generous.

I am the minority on this book for sure!

DNF @ 73%.... I feel like this book had so much potential and it just missed the mark with me.

Lucy Score has written some of my favorite books like [b:Rock Bottom Girl|44178049|Rock Bottom Girl|Lucy Score|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1551579681l/44178049._SY75_.jpg|68455666], [b:The Christmas Fix|36682408|The Christmas Fix|Lucy Score|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1511930372l/36682408._SY75_.jpg|58331983], and [b:Mr. Fixer Upper|35617103|Mr. Fixer Upper|Lucy Score|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1499436955l/35617103._SY75_.jpg|56834543]. Those books I loved, they were the typical enemies to lovers, which is one of my favorite tropes.

This book on the other hand had the workings to be great, but to me it just didn't perform.

Ally and Dominic met when she was working as a server for a pizza joint and was trying to tell Dom that the pizza place had a "No Cell Phone" policy and he was talking on the phone. And from then on their sassy banter was off the charts. I feel like I was looking forward to their banter at the beginning because their comebacks and insults they would throw at each other would be glorious!

I really enjoyed it when they were "arguing", but people I can only take so much of "I can't be with you, but I want you" conversation. That happened for about 50% of the book and I was getting tired of it. Then all of a sudden I felt like their relationship switched over night, that I didn't understand. I am talking about
Spoiler when Dom went to see Ally at her bar job, and told her all about how he liked her but couldn't act on it. And then when he stalked her to the strip club, and they had that steamy lap dance, but then they were both so stubborn they couldn't see what was in front of them... besides his wet spot *wink wink*. But those two events were so out of the box for both characters that I felt they were put in there for plot purposes and not because their character would do that.

I think that if they were honest with each other at the beginning and didn't with hold information that could propel the relationship forward then I think that this story could have been so much better in my eyes.

I am honestly going to skip to the end/ just skim the main events get the gist of what has happened because I am not in the mood to deal with stupid right now. And both of these characters know that they are being stupid, and can fix it,but choose not to.

I really just wish Dom would have consulted Ally rather than tell her what to do, I get being the territorial Alpha male, but he was trying so hard to avoid doing that the whole book that it just didn't go with his character or his motives. I think that if they were enemies, then merged in to friends learned to leaned on each other, then ya know went to lovers I think that gradual transition would have been better than this choppy version of that. They needed to trust each other, but neither one of them was willing to tell the other their issues that were holding them back from fully exploring the potential of the relationship. That to me was pissing me off because if they wanted to be friends then they should trust each other with their issues!

I just had such high expectations going in to this that when they weren't met I was left disappointed. Don't get me wrong this book hooked me for the first 50%, but then I started to lose interest... oh well on to find the next great book!

Dominic is the creative director of one of the most popular fashion magazine in the world. He was forced to take on his father's role after his father was banished from the company. He's a bad mood 24/7 so when Ally answers him with a tone, he gets her fired from her pizza place. Thankfully, Dominic's mother can recognise talent and offers her a job in the magazine. Dominic and Ally can't stand each other and working together proves quite difficult, especially when they need to fight off their attraction.

I liked the complexity of Dominic and Ally's personalities. Dominic is not a Prince Charming although Ally calls him that. He has many defects and their relationship is not love at first sight. They need to talk things through and compromise.

I just love Lucy Score.

Slow burn, workplace romance, grumpy boss, enemies to lovers!! All the tropes I love!!

The one thing about this was the main characters ages, you’d think they were younger than what they are which brought my rating down.

This one was possibly the most emotional LS book I've read so far. The characters are so damaged in their own ways, and watching them begin to heal was wonderful.

Dominic meets Ally in quite an eventful way when she spells out a lovely expletive on his pizza. He gets her fired, and his mother steps in. The story takes off from there, and the characters are all built up well. Seeing Ally go through her Dad as he fights dementia was extremely sad yet uplifting.

This was a great book. It's a slow burn with some spice but plenty of emotions.

4.25.

I get the hype with Lucy Score now!

Characters:
Ally is one of my favourite characters that I’ve ever read! I fell in love with her right away, and as I continued reading By a Thread, my love for her only grew. Ally is the type of person I wish I was, but unlike some characters in romance books, she’s realistic. That’s one thing Lucy Score does well. She gives her characters real life struggles without over traumatizing them. Dom was hot and cold with me, but as you can tell from the five stars, he obviously won me over. The thing I liked about Dom was that he knew when he was in the wrong, and worked really hard to improve himself.

Plot:
Best workplace romance ever! I was obsessed with the plot, which is why it took me less than a week to read By a Thread. When the book seemed like it couldn’t get better, it did. There was also not a single plot hole. If there was something on my mind from earlier in the book that didn’t really need to be mentioned again, but I would have liked if it was mentioned again, it was mentioned again! I also think that By a Thread is my favourite ending of any book I’ve ever read. I could never be tired of Ally and Dom, but I also think that By a Thread ended in the perfect place. That being said, I did read the bonus epilogue and loved every second of it.

Writing:
I’ve never read a book this long so quickly. Lucy Score’s writing is in depth, but also really easy to read. I was obsessed with the way she wrote both Ally and Dom’s POV. It felt so natural and raw. I can’t wait to read more of Lucy Score’s books!

Conclusion:
Read this ASAP! Like right now!
