I really enjoyed this book! The humour, the heist, the betrayal, the secrets... And all the misery

Wow. I really enjoyed this book a lot. It had vampires, magic, greedy kings, King Arthur retelling where Excalibur is a shape shifting weapon, and a kitten that I think is more than just a cute side character. Oh, and Merlin? He’s a vampire and I’m convinced he’s a chaos junkie but hides the fact he’s a chaos junkie.

Vampires! A heist! Romance! Secrets! This book has it all!

This book has similar vibes to Six of Crows (found family does a heist) but it's also completely all it's own. I loved that Arthie and Jin were brother and sister and not love interests (but also appreciated they each got their own love interest) and I appreciated that there was a reveal I saw coming (and Faizal talks about that in her end of audiobook interview) but I loved even more there was a twist I didn't see coming.
I think I'll read the second book with my eyeballs though because the audiobook narrator has a lovely voice, but she's so melodic that it lulls me and I think I'll engage with it better with eyeballs.
Highly recommend if you're looking for a colonialism is terrible + found family heist story.
