Not one of his best. I thought The Woods was much better. I didn't find the parts with the dad at The Club believable. Plus the way it tied together was a little hokey.

It was a good book that kept me wanting to read. It wasn't his best that I've read, but this book is clean, and he ties the mysteries together nicely.

Holy crap.

This was my first Harlan Coben book and it was a long time coming. I'd heard of him and his books before but never got around to reading one. My mistake. I am now a fan and will be getting ahold of as many more of his books as I can.

This book drew me in from the start. Granted I'm reading it a decade after publication, so minor tech issues are dated, but the theme and basis behind it all is still very topical and realistic. At the heart of it all is a story about the lengths we go to in order to protect our children. But do those actions help or hinder? Are we right for interfering? When is knowledge too much? Not enough? All of these questions are ones that anyone can relate to.

But that is just one part of the story. You also have a cast of characters, all acquaintances of each other. Yet unbeknownst to them all they are tied together in ways they cannot imagine. This also hits upon the whole 6 degrees of separation aspect and how one small action can have a domino effect on all those remotely connected. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how Coben has the characters all connected and it kept getting better and better as the story drew to a close.

The book is not short on action at all, but the final few chapters are pretty explosive and fast paced. I can easily see how his works are made into film/TV. I found myself thinking, damn this would make a killer Netflix series, several times throughout. Coben does a great job of writing a story that is both character-driven and plot-driven so you're not only invested in the characters, but on the edge of your seat to find out what happens to them next.

Highly recommended. Definitely for those who enjoy the thriller genre as it pertains to realistic (ie not supernatural or horror) events.

Wow!! Just wow!!
I love how this story starts out with so many individual characters and as it unfolds they slowly intertwine and it all becomes clearer page by page. I could not put this book down though Harlen Coben never disappoints so it’s not surprising this was amazing.

Half way thru I was not sure how the plot was going to meld; but it was very suspenseful - I had to remember to breathe! Lol. Fast paced right to the end. Don't page read as there are some very pertinent details you don't want to miss. It's like being in a suspense movie.

Harlan Coben specializes in writing intricate and suspenseful mysteries that keep you turning pages late into the night. His first (and to my mind, his best) standalone murder mystery was "Tell No One". Since then he has written several more novels which have been increasingly similar in plot. I was pleasantly surprised that "Hold Tight" marks a departure in formula, in that it doesn't center on an ancient murder case or the long ago disappearance of a family member. While this does mean that the book struggles a little to find its own momentum, at least Coben is trying something different instead of giving us more of the same.

"Hold Tight" juggles a number of different stories, all of which in some way center on the theme of parents trying to protect and/or understand their children. While initially they seem to be quite disparate plotlines, eventually the connections between them become apparent and it is this process of putting the jigsaw pieces together that is the most satisfying part of reading "Hold Tight". One of the things that I really like about Harlan Coben's writing is that there are never any loose ends or things that get left unexplained.

"Hold Tight" is a little slower in pace than his other novels and at times it gets confusing keeping track of so many people, but it's still is a satisfying mystery that keeps the suspense going right until the final pages.
