A charming, gender-swapped retelling of My Fair Lady's Eliza Doolittle, Henry Higgins, and Colonel Pickering set in an alternate version of 1830s England ruled by Queen Charlotte. I enjoyed the story but I really love My Fair Lady so was maybe more excited about this than someone who has never seen the film. I still think that students coming to this story for the first time will find it fun. The focus on cooking and culinary competitions will definitely appeal to some readers. There are good characters, a strong story, and a good romance. The author's note explains that Queen Charlotte was King George IV's only heir but died before ascending the throne. It was a fun and quick read.

Better then I thought it would be since I didn't like the writing style from the start and pushed through because I was interested in the story. RTC? Ok THIS time I thiiink i'm out of the reading slump...

I just didn't really care for this. It seemed like not a lot happened, and I just wanted more. If you're really into cooking or food, you might like this better than I did.

I couldn't remember why I had this book on my TBR. While reading it I found myself not liking it as a read on. The cooking aspect was alright, it bored me a bit. The romance was meh. It wasn't what I thought it would be

This had such great potential. I love food in books. But somehow the plot was just so flat. And conflict was created and then forgotten. Also let's be honest, the royal family doesn't care about a cooking competition that much...
