DID NOT FINISH

DNF @page 153

Do I really need to torture myself on valentine's day with finishing this 400 pages of insta-love story between two unrealistic main characters I ever read?

Of course not, being single in a relationship with fictional character(s) is enough.

-------------

Hello, it's me again. So, apparently, people were shocked that I decided to dnf this book. Okay, let me tell you why:

- Quick disclaimer, this book is not for everyone. I've read some reviews of this book and in conclusion, people can either hate this book to the core or love this book with all of their hearts.

- So, this book is super long, 400 pages, my friend. It's too long for YA contemporary imo. (This is subjective, yeah)

- This super-long book represents some Indian cultures, names, and traditions. WHICH I LOVE because we barely see Indian representation in books.

- Dimple Shah. Should I explain? Fine. I loved her before she met Rishi. I thought she will be this badass nerdy girl who stood up for herself. Turns out? She's rude, abusive, and she's trying to be sweety sweet girl but she failed *thumbs down*

- Insta-love story that's faster than the time it takes to cook instant noodles. The worst? It's also cringe.

- Rishi Patel. I like him okay. This hopeless romantic boy at least is a little bit cool. Even though he's unrealistic, I mean, is there anyone who agree to marry someone just by seeing their photo? Even though it's an arranged marriage? At least you can say "Well, okay, let me get to know her first and I'll consider it again." and not just saying yes right anyway. Or he is just an obedient son, idk man.

- How every chapter ends:
A. Dimple blushed.
B. Rishi fell in love deeper with Dimple.
Or any similar thing.

- Coding thing. We barely see any explanation about this coding thing because every time they want to discuss about their coding project, they just end up flirting with each other. We only got a brief progress and explanation about what happen in this coding camp.

That's all I can explain for now. And no, I don't think I'll ever try finishing this book since I heard people said that it doesn't get any better.

Well that was a very cute, fun and well narrated audiobook! I really liked Dimple in the beginning, and I enjoyed listening to her and Rishi banter and watch their relationship grow. I have to admit that toward the end I did get a bit annoyed at Dimple and I felt that she was being selfish and unkind....
The story was sweet, the characters authentic and the ending satisfying. exactly the type of story I was in need of.
Overall this was a really good audio book that I used every opportunity to listen to.

Have only been listening to this audiobook for ten minutes and I am already in love with Dimple - she is excellent!

Super cute and sweet but man did it drag at the 3/4 mark. Definitely a great addition to any collection though and I think most teen readers who will pick this up at all will enjoy the romance so much they won't notice the pacing issues or that it's cavity inducing. And as an examination of what it is to be a first veneration Indian-American was STELLAR, so that's something.
funny lighthearted medium-paced

I have hot and cold feelings on this one.

It's cute, a little too cute (I found myself gagging at the excessive cuteness; the way you might decide a cake is just too sweet) and overall it was a little too goopy, made more awkward because they are in college and are college freshman really acting like 8th graders these days? I get they were geeky virgins but it was still... very immature.

What I liked: Dimple (the girl) is a computer programmer and proud of being nerdy. I also appreciated that she was driven and focused on her career aspirations and she struggled with the pressures her parents put on her. This book also had educational elements for me; exposing me to Indian culture and making me question presumptions and opinions I had.

What I didn't like: The Rishi narration was not believable for me; I didn't buy that these were the internal thoughts a 18-yo male was having. I kept thinking "it's so obvious a women is writing this and she can't write a male voice."

This story was a little too "fairy tale-y" which didn't work with the premise or early tone set. Another criticism: The author also stayed a little too superficial where it mattered. For example, when Dimple meets Rishi (her eventual boyfriend) she struggles for a half minute--tops. There was very very verrry little internal turmoil, which did not match to the character. For how Dimple is presented, she should have struggled with her feelings for Rishi, tried to deny or fight her feelings for him, or at the very least had a pause and worried about if he was going to be a distraction (she was supposedly very career focused). There are also uncalculated time jumps that left me unsatisfied... I want resolutions and events to unfold not be skipped over and the end rished.

The whole "coming of age" aspect for both Rishi and Dimple was very underwhelming and not flushed out as well as it could of been... Superficial/unsubstantial are keywords here.

That said, it's an easy read and I kept at it for hours until I had to work, go to sleep, whatever.

Very very cutesy. Good for anyone who likes super sweet YA romance.

After hearing so much about this book, I was super excited to read it.

But when I actually read it, there was so much I really disliked.

I guess Dimple and Rishi could have been cute if--oh I don't know--she's wasn't so abusive and mean to him. If Rishi acted like Dimple, people would be more pissed. But no one really mentions how terrible Dimple treats him.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

After losing the con, Dimple suddenly turns on him, thinking it was his fault their team didn't win. Like...really??

Overall, I'm just disappointed. I grew up on Bollywood movies, so I was going this book would almost be like one. And it was at some parts. But a lot of the time I was just done with the book.

I am just gonna go now because there's really a lot more I want to talk about and get triggered over but I have to go.

This book is as delightful as everyone says. It suffers a little from rom com tropes towards the end, but mostly it's a good book about good people, and gets mega points for it's casual diversity.

So so sweet. Felt like being wrapped in a big blanket.

3.5/5. It dragged a bit in the middle for me but a cute read overall and one that is sure to appeal to the hopeless romantic or YA set!

This book was so freaking incredible and amazing, I honestly think it's my favourite book I've read so far this year. It made me feel all the emotions and the writing was so addicting and the characters were so kick ass awesome but also truly flawed in a related way. I just loved this book so so much, it's honestly made me so happy!
