~4.5~

DID NOT FINISH: 54%

I haven’t read this in two days and I’ve decided to DNF because I find it incredibly difficult to pick up.

I can’t get into the storyline.

Well this book was significantly darker than the first, Pip needs therapy, like decades of it! I finished this book in a day, Holly Jackson's style of writing really keeps you hooked. While I didn't love this book as much as the first in the series, not knowing all the spoilers meant I picked up on more of the clues in the book and found the mystery unraveled in a very logical interesting way.

But *spoilers* the reveal of this book felt a lot less satisfying, while I was suspicious of both Stanley (even in the first book) and Charlie, I felt that the reveal of who they were didn't feel as natural. As a reader you couldn't have deduced it as we didn't know of this prolific serial killer until just before the Stanley reveal. But I will say the call backs to previous books and how well Jackson sets up the new couple does redeem this final reveal partly.

I am worried for how Pip will be in the final book, the tone has definitely darkened significantly and hope the final book can bring more hope to Pip and Ravi (and have more Ravi in it!).
