This was SO different than what I’m used to for regency/historical romance and I absolutely loved it!! This would have been a solid 4 stars if George hadn’t of been a twit & kept secrets toward the end. The ship scene saved things for me thankfully 😊
But overall so much fun & now I need to find out what happens with Andrew.

Enjoyable to read, but the plot was pretty empty. I thought there'd be more to Edward and Thomas's mission, but . . . apparently not?
Tal vez 3.5...
Cecilia me cae fatal!

I mean… overalll a delight but my god did I just want our two main characters to stop THINKING about how they really should talk about the BIG LOOMING THING and actually just talk. I know how it works in terms of structure. But I feel like we could have had a more interesting version of a fake marriage plot if they were both in on it earlier.
The main issue that I have with Julia Quinn's books is that she always has a good premise but never manages to live up to my expectations. Instead of developing the plot and characters she ends up filling up the book with unrealistic and meaningless phrases. For example, I was rolling my eyes like crazy at the mention of Shakespeare's plays (seriously, can't HR authors come up with better fillers? It's as if their books will gain credibility at the mention of Shakespeare, I mean come on!)
I just can't stand the silly banters and pointless dialogues between the main characters and they represent like 80% of the book. It's not only that I feel irritated, I also feel cheated by reading so many insufferable and unbearable fillers such as focusing on only one misheard word for the whole page.
I'm giving it 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 stars because I really liked Edward (he was really sweet) and I'm a sucker for the love-letters trope. Cecilia, on the other hand, was a bit too skittish for my taste but I never condemned her for lying to Edward - the girl had to survive. However, I still couldn't really feel their relationship and felt disconnected throughout the most of the story.
I liked the ending though, it was really emotional.
Truth to be told, I wouldn't really recommend it to someone who is new to HR genre. There are so many better books out there. If you are already a fan of Julia Quinn - give it a try! If you are looking for a well-developed plot and unique HR story - then look elsewhere and come back to it if you have nothing better to read.
SAFETY GANG: safe
Possible triggers: yes
