There has never been a more perfect man than Ryan Shay. The DEFINITION of written by a woman. Indy was so sweet and fun. Their relationship felt so organic and genuine, you really couldn’t help but root for them. Their respective struggles were very real and I loved the way they were able to open up to each other and work to help the other make forward progress. This book is more than just soft and sweet but that is the feeling I have at the end of the book. Pure happiness for them! 🥰

While this book was really cute and Ryan Shay really was the perfect book boyfriend that he was made out to be in other people’s reviews, I couldn’t get over the the representation of Chicago. That may be a super nitpicky thing, but it really bothered me. I didn’t notice in Mile High because they barely spent anytime in Chicagoland, but most of this book took place in Chicago and I have a few critiques:

1) They move to a house “a half an hour out of the city” where Ryan says that they can see so many stars. Yeah, I’ve lived an hour outside of Chicago for the majority of my life and there is so much light pollution that I’m more likely to see an orange sky than more than three stars most nights.

2) People that live in Chicago love talking about what neighborhood they live in. The fact that it’s never mentioned what neighborhood it is simply wouldn’t happen.

3) Since the majority of this book takes place in winter. We love to complain about the weather here, especially how cold it is with the lake chill, so the fact that it’s not mentioned at all is bizarre to me.

I really did enjoy this book, but I’m just really protective of Chicago. I know that these are seriously the most nitpicky things in the world, so this is basically my campaign to be a beta reader for any of Liz Tomforde’s future books set in Chicago!

This made me giddy. I drooled, I kicked my feet in the air, I fell in love. Ryan was a dreamboat. Zee and Vee cameos were amazing. It was a freaking good time.

Now, Rio DeLuca on the other hand? That man owns me without even trying! 🫠🫠

This was a little bit hard to rate because I felt like it should have ended at the 80% mark. The final conflict made sense because it was something the main characters needed to discuss but it felt dragged out.

I also think that the author needs to trust her readers more. You don’t need to explain your metaphor. We get it. You also don’t need to tell us multiple times that Ryan gets fouled a lot without it being called because of his size and lack of championships. We can remember that information and it makes the writing redundant.

I did really enjoy a lot of this book which makes rating it so hard! It has tropes that I love. I really like the two main characters even if Indy did annoy me a bit at the end. The spice was really good and tense towards the beginning but even that was a little boring by the end. Basically, if it had been about 20% shorted it would have probably been 4.5 stars but it was dragged out to the point that my overall enjoyment was severely lessened.

This is such a good romance. It’s sexy and emotional, I love Ryan and Indigo’s relationship. Even though this is a book in a series, you can read one without reading them all, but now I think I need to start the series from the beginning!
