I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could. Such a beautiful and painfully written story that spans decades. Absolutely stunning.

A story of lost love amidst the Iranian Revolution.
Roya meets Bahman in the Stationery Shop that she visits each week. The fall in love, but then violence and uprising hit Iran and things fall apart. Roya moves to America and tries to forget about Bahman, but his memory just won't fade.
Told in multiple POV and timelines, the story unfolds of how the couple met, of how they fell apart and of later in life.
I admit to not knowing much about the Revolution, but have since been researching online. This was a love story, and a story of loss and of hope.
It was sad and tough to read in places, but I loved spending time finding out about the characters.

DNF at 25%. Unfortunately this wasn’t for me. I didn’t enjoy the story at all and I didn’t find it engaging, maybe because I’m not much of a romantic these days. Others will likely enjoy it, though.

My first from this author and my first time reading a book about Iranian culture. This is a bittersweet book. A slow burn but packs a big punch. I enjoyed this book as it touches on a lot of relevant topics both in the past and in the present. If you’re looking for a different kind of historical fiction with bittersweet romance (my favorite kind), put this on your TBR!

Една от най-добрите романтични книги, които съм чела. Толкова трагична, на моменти сърцето ми се късаше.
