Great audio adaptation of a great comic series! I look forward to further installments.

I couldn’t even finish it.

The Sandman Audible by Neil Gaiman

While I shared Neil's New Year Blog Post with Naomi,"This is the first author I loved before I even became his fan. Does that make sense?" She asked.

Having read Neil's name at 15 in a Holly Black book, I always wondered what kind of author he is. Girl did he win my 18 year old soul over? Having loved him for almost a decade now, I can clearly say the answer is--"Yes!"

Pritha gifted me the opportunity to listen to the audible adaptation; I have heard it on loop: inside bus, taxi, airport, and while sleeping. I always found it hard to keep up with audio books, but again Neil proved that he can make me appreciate any form of narrative he works with.

The Sandman's voice cast was almost perfection. Michael Sheen as Lucifer, Kate Dennings as Death, Andy Serkis as Mathew, Arthur Darvill as Shakespeare and Neil as narrator was a gala event. This adaptation comprised the first two volumes, and my favourite chapter is obviously The Sound of Her Wings, Kate nailed her Death!

I loved Rose Walker and Gilbert, and Cain and Abel's conversation the most. And o my Desire, how do I love thee? Hob Gadling too stole the thunder again.

Listening to the book was an experience that's hard to describe. In audio The Ocean At The End Of The Lane that I play on loop, narrator Neil is be-all and end-all. In Sandman the action panels, the speech bubbles, the background art of the book come alive with amazing well balanced sound engineering without being stuffy.

There was enough room left for the reader to visualise her version of the story while listening to the description. Especially Corinthian's description sent a chill down my spine despite having read the comics so many times.

My complaint is with James McAvoy, he did everything to become The Dream of the Endless, yet I found him constipated. The Morpheus is very "Emo" for lack of better expression in the book.

When expressing his anger and disappointment, or clashing with John Dee, Dream sounded as whiny and tantrum throwing rather than the scary being who can curse someone with endless awakening! James did shine as Lord Morpheus in A Hope in Hell, A Midsummer's Night Dream and Calliope.

This was just fantastic. Augments an already great work. It provided another interpretation of this series. Wow.

I have wanted to read the graphic novels for a while now, but due to an injury that format is particularly difficult for me at the moment. So I was thrilled when this audible version came out. It is a full cast, very high quality recording. I really enjoyed the story line and the imagery, the characters and the reading. There was one volume that just felt like the violence was gratuitous and over the top, but I put this down to it having been written decades ago, when Gaiman was still early on in his career and perhaps trying a bit too hard to be edgy. I am very glad to have finally gotten to experience the beginning of this series.

If you're a fan of Neil Gaiman, Sandman, or even just James (my future husband) McAvoy - or really, any of the actors involved - this is 100% worth it. Until the Universe gives me my Netflix adaptation, I will keep replaying this.

There are scenes that make me cry just like the books did. There are scenes that make me laugh. There are chapters that I replay until I know them by heart. There are lines that I randomly blurt just for fun.

Having never read the graphic novels, I enjoyed and was engaged with the characters. It kept me entertained with the Dream Lord and his sister Death. The descriptions were easy to visualize, now I want to read the graphic novels.
