I loved this book. It’s a quick read and I really enjoyed the FMC. She’s strong and sure and quick witted. She’s also relatable. I loved the banter between her and Gray. He’s so morally black and I loved it. The twist at the end was like whoa. I couldn’t pick up the second book fast enough. I really loved this.
I agree with people’s complaints but I enjoyed it anyway. The plot was a little bit all over the place. On top of that the murder mystery wasn’t as much of a focal point as I thought it would be. Overall I was still very much invested and couldn’t put this book down. I am curious to see where book 2 goes!

The magic system with connections to nature was really cool. Plot development was hard for me to follow, felt jerky and with some holes.
"God has nothing to do with the things I'm going to do to you, Witchling"
All witches are defined by their source of power:
The Greens draw from Earth
The Whites from Crystals
The Yellows from Fire
The Blues from Water
The Reds from Passion
but only the Blacks draw from the Bones of their Ancestors.
"If it is order that you value, then I will bring you nothing but chaos."
All her life, Willow has been on the run from the Covenant, a conclave of powerful witches and their servants, demons trapped inside human vessels. But after the death of her mother and loss of their magical protection, the only way to hide her brother from the eyes of the Coven is to accept the invitation to Hollow's Grove University, a secret institution just outside of Salem that teaches magic to all descendants of the original seven witch bloodlines.
Unbeknownst to the other witches, Willows true intention in coming to Hollow's Grove is to unravel a bloody secret and to tear down the school from the inside, seeking retribution for a massacre that took place fifty years before her time which destroyed her family's legacy.
"What happens when I'm tired of fighting?"
His face softened, "Then you let me do it for you."
~Review~
This was hands down my favourite read of the year, so much so I actually finished it in one sitting.
I didn't realise how much I was craving a witchy dark adventure full of twists and turns. Willow's attraction to the blood-thirsty Headmaster, Alaric Grayson Thorne, is in direct conflict with her hatred for the Vessels, an abomination of nature she swore to destroy which makes for exquisite enemies-to-lovers (to enemies?).
The story was addictive and intricate including a wonderful magic system and horrifying antagonists. I cannot wait for the next book to come out in August.

This caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting much from the first book in read after being completely DEMOLISHED by Onyx Storm. But this held its own very nicely! Spicy and magical, with a really cool plot twist. Can't wait to read book 2!

good spooky season read
It was definitely not the best writing I’ve experienced, but it was good story that held my interest. And that ending I did not see coming. Excited to read book 2.
