2✨️ Am I disappointed? Yes. Did I go in expecting it to be bad? Also yes, based on what I'd seen people saying, but alas it was a book club pick. The author wasted a cool concept TBH, this had the potential but the execution was poorly done. The writing was average at best. A chunk of the world-building was just dumped on the reader at the start. The pacing was totally off (not sure how else to explain it), so I read the initial 20-ish% fairly quickly, then had to push through until it got interesting again at the 80% mark, when the major plot points were revealed all at once (again, dumped on the reader). The smut was decent, though! Will read the next one purely out of curiosity.

It’s a world full of witches, who have lost a fundamental part of their strength and abilities due to a greedy leadership and matriarch. There is a demonic awakening and some fun in the middle.
Its not a 4, because it just didn’t hit the right spot. I’ve read other series from this author and I’ve liked them but as this one it missed something to make it a 5. Maybe its the depth of the characters or more world building. Lets see what she does with the second book in the series.

What an intro! Oh My Lord I was in TEARS and I barely knew the characters or the story. It had me in such a choke hold I NEEDED to finish it sooner than later. Like how are you going to come at me with

I have so many thoughts and just not enough words for this. I will say READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! There is a lot that is woven in this story that not a lot of people would be okay with and it needs to be made of aware before enjoying the story.
However, the magic system! The hunting for the truth! THE ENDING THAT LEFT ME SO ANGERY I DIDN'T HAVE THE NEXT COPY RIGHT BY MY SIDE. So much was happening and I had my breath held the entire time.
