She's hilarious, vulnerable, and completely unafraid. I loved how she learned to welcome failure and found it freeing. And her work on common sense gun reform with everytown earned my admiration.
Fearless and unapologetic. Calls out the societal double standard regarding expectations for ‘female’ behavior. The vulgarity (e.g., vaginal odor descriptions) is perhaps a bit much for my boomer generation, but just roll with it. It’s Schumer’s hammering that is going to break down the Madonna/slut shaming paradigm.
I would love to give this a higher rating, but it took me almost 3 months to finish.
First of all, I love Amy Schumer. Some girlfriends and I went to see her on a Tuesday night in the winter in a huge arena with a few thousand women and a scattering of men. Her new special on Netflix is basically what she covered, and many people (my husband, for one) find her too crude. But here's the thing: for that night, the energy in that stadium was charged with laughter of thousands of women laughing at what happens to... well... women! It was so nice to just laugh and not be embarrassed! My pregnant friend literally laughed so hard she pee'd a little, which was even funnier.
I feel like she'd be a great friend, and that we have a lot in common (no, really!). I don't feel like an entire book was the right set-up for her, however. A collection of essays would have maybe been a better fit? Something is lost in translation. But it's her life, and she was very honest in it, so kudos for that! She is "brave" but not in the "posting a swimsuit picture" awful way, but in the "standing up for what she believes in" kinda of way.
I will always be grateful to her for giving us gals a night to bond over her life observations, and am cheering for her next venture. Why?

It's relaxing sometimes, just being human.
I wouldn't call this THAT funny. I really didn't even have the passion to finish the book. Definitely had some funny parts, but over all one I will not fully recommended
I thought this book was entertaining but I took breaks between reading chapters. I think if I had read it straight through, I would not have enjoyed it as much. I really admire Schumer and like her humor.
This was absolutely fantastic, and now I want to be friends with Amy Schumer.

I learned way more information about Amy than I ever wanted.
I honestly didn't expect to love this book, but I did. It was equal parts hilarious, sad, inspiring, and fun. Amy is a crazy girl that I should have been friends with. But she's also someone who knows, and owns who she is and where she comes from. It was honestly inspiring to hear how she finally decided to love herself. I have mad respect and from one Towson alumni to another, Towson really is bullshit!
