”He’d had a plan, but now he gladly followed hers. He’d intended to be a king, but now he only cared to be her king.”

Bane and Echo are a power couple, which is why I’m sad that we barely see said dynamic on page. The romance definitely takes precedence over showcasing them teaming up to destroy their enemies—which fair enough, this is a romance—but it’s so difficult to find books with power couples that I’m greedy for the content. I still loved this story, but I want more.

This is a really cute novella. I like both main characters and how they grew together, even if it was pretty quick.

You know this was a fun time but it wasn’t a long time and it needed to be. I need like 300 more pages of this book and it would be a five star.

This sadly didn’t meet the hype for me. It was a great set-up, but there were so many pieces that could’ve really benefited from being fleshed out into more of a full-length novel.

This could have been a 5 star. As my first Kati Wilde book, I was immediately blown away by her prose. It was so reminiscent of Tessa Dare's "The Duchess Deal" that my brain read this entire book in Mary Jane Wells' voice. It was the same rhythm, banter and open anachronism. Perfection in every way.

I adore stories where we see the other side of the good/evil coin. We've all heard that the villain doesn't think they're the villain; and in this book, the villains are absolutely the heroes. They aren't necessarily nice. They aren't necessarily good to everyone. But they are fair and good to those who have earned it.

Why did I take off a star. Well...there's bizarre and wacky and there's "bizarre" and "wacky". First off, paralysis is not the same as rigor mortis. When these two idiots end up paralyzed with (apparently) magic rigor mortis poison {insert eye roll here}, their poorly sprung carriage hits a lot of bumps and manages to accidentally approximate the mating act. I tried to find this funny. I REALLY tried and ultimately failed.
And, SPOILER!...

We already have two sets of identical twins. Therefore, I've already suspended my disbelief. For a third set to be revealed in the end? {facepalm}

Overall, this is a re-read for sure. And I'll absolutely read more of her work. After all, who doesn't like to laugh at death and maiming jokes?
