I enjoyed this a lot. I highlighted a lot of passages in the eBook I got from the library and wound up buying a copy so I could read it at bedtime to my son. The short chapters worked well for that. On the second read it did not seem to have as many profound points as I saw in the first read, but it was still good. I had to simplify it more than I expected for my son with a learning disability, but it still provided good father-son time to talk about important character qualities. I recommend it for that reason.

I was very impressed with this book. I know it looks like I took three years to read it, but we only read it one chapter a week and only when my husband's boys were in town visiting. We wanted a book that might impart some strong values without being preachy. I think this book does it very well.

I really enjoyed the stories throughout. I'm impressed with the writing. There were times when I didn't feel the story being told tied in to the theme as obviously as it could have, but I also appreciated that the values weren't heavy handed.

I'm impressed with Ethan Hawke's writing. I was pleasantly surprised.

Beautiful book about saying what's important. 20 rules to live by including solitude, humility, love and death....each with its own little story attached. Personally learned a lot. Definitely a book to be read over and over!
