Holy moly, Elle Kennedy does it again. From the off, I knew that The Risk was going to be utterly hilarious and ridiculously hot. I’m happy to report that I was 100% correct. What I didn’t factor in, though, but definitely should have because this is Elle Kennedy after all, is that I’d also be sobbing my little heart out.

Brenna and Jake are hilarious. Jake’s ability to say whatever he is feeling when he feels it is incredible. He is confident but not arrogant, which is such an attractive trait in a human. Brenna is sunshine. Even behind her armour, she is kind and generous with such a big heart. Her intelligence is otherworldly and I just adore her. I wish she was my best friend but, honestly, she’s too good for me.

Brenna’s story is very similar to my own in many ways (though mine did not go as horribly wrong) and I feel like The Risk will hold a piece of my heart now forever. To see my own life on paper and have Jake respond so kindly and empathetically to Brenna was something I didn’t realise I needed to read. Elle Kennedy is a god among authors.

The main story felt disjointed. And while it was set up as a forbidden romance, the stakes didn't feel "High", so to speak. Plus, whenever Brenna tried to explain the relationship she had with her dad and how he "didn't trust her", I couldn't stop thinking to myself "why can't you realize that it's cause he's worried for you??", but I digress. Even though it wasn't the best, the last fourth of the book made up for it. And, I'll be honest, Jake Connelly made the entire book worth it. I also really really enjoyed how Brenna and Jake's careers were a big part of the story. Overall, it could've been better.
