Was not a fan of this ending. Seemed very underwhelming. After reading so many series with morally good main characters, I just wanted Jorg to continue on like how he was back in book one. This was my least favourite of the trilogy. This may be bad to say, but I miss the Jorg with very little to no moral compass.
This instalment was a bit of a let-down. I struggled to finish it - unlike the previous two - and the ending did not make it worth my while. I think I kept reading because of Jorg. I've never encountered a character like him, he is unique and utterly engaging. I will be revisiting Lawrence's fantasy world in the future, I think.
Absolutely everything I'd hoped for. Jorg is one of my favorite characters in any story of all time. it's a bittersweet day to finish his tale but the ending left me very satisfied. I will be reading everything Mark Lawrence writes from now on. thank you for a book that broadens my horizons and gives me such a deep experience.
Well. Well, well, well.
This is going to be more of a review for the whole of Broken Empire rather than just Emperor, as Emperor kind of encapsulates my feelings for the series as a whole.
But first off: was this a good conclusion? Yes. It’s rare to find a story where it could end in almost any direction and still be satisfying, and this was one of them. Overall, pretty happy with the ending. It fit the tone of the series, as a good ending should.
To say that this trilogy has been an unexpected read for me this year would be an understatement, and its rise to being one of my favourite trilogies on my shelves would be even more of a shock, considering this is a series I never even expected myself to want to read.
From the beginning, this is a story that grabbed me and pulled me through. It stuck in my thoughts when I wasn’t reading, made me cringe and cheer and surprised me time and again. Jorg’s story is a masterpiece of character development, plot often becoming a backseat to character as we learn how Jorg came to be. Once his backstory is learned, there is never a question of why he is the way he is.
Was the trilogy perfect? No. Were there faults, problems, things that didn’t always perfectly align? Absolutely.
But it was also brilliant. This is a story that won’t leave me anytime soon, and these are characters that will definitely remain with me.
Is this story for everyone? Absolutely not.
But for the people this story IS for...it really is a special little trilogy, and I am truly glad to have read it.

One of the best fantasy series I have read and that is complete. Cannot wait for a TV show to be made out of it.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S OVER
THAT ENDING. I ALREADY MISS THESE CHARACTERS

As much as I love this trilogy, I will have to admit that the Emperor of Thorns was my least favourite of the three (even though it was still amazing).
At the beginning of the series, I disliked Katherine for the seemingly unnecessary role she played. By Emperor of Thorns though, I wanted her to have more page time. We still only get glimpses into her character but from what we do know of her, I was able to conclude that she was likable and even interesting after all.
On the other hand, Miana seemed a little more dull in personality compared to the fiery girl we saw in King of Thorns (see what I did there?? Read King of Thorns and you'll know). Still, Mark Lawrence does a good job of writing female characters- so I'm excited to read his other series which actually features a female as the protagonist.
Jorg's evolution was an interesting element to follow throughout the trilogy. He starts off as an utterly ruthless boy who is seemingly capable of committing any atrocity but by the end, we've seen the parts of him that can be considered somewhat redeeming and despite a continued murder streak, Jorg still wins us over with his wit and humour.
I will have to admit I was disappointed by the lack of Makin compared to the first two books. I had loved his strong sense of loyalty to Jorg and their strange but intriguing relationship. I wanted to know more about Makin- he probably confused me more than the other characters. On the one hand, we've seen him play the role of honourable knight. On the other hand, he seems as happy to kill whoever and commit other crimes along with the rest of the brothers.
My pea-sized brain couldn't wrap itself around the ending of the book but all I know is that it was a wave of feels. I didn't want the story to end *cries eternally*
