Final book in the trilogy. I have very mixed feelings about this series; on the one hand it's a new an interesting storyworld with very few too obvious things and a interesting MC who's narrative is cold, calculated and quite fun and sarcastic all at once. On the other hand it's a dystopia told like a coming-of-age-story in the dark ages, with a MC who's narrative might be fun and interesting but completely unbelievably in regards to his age, education and emotional wreckage. Added to that; I never really felt compelled to read it, you know those books where you just HAVE to read another chapter before bed, this isn't one of those books.

So to sum up: a good series with an interesting world and story, but where you lack a solid connection to the MC.
adventurous dark mysterious tense slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

HOW TO SUM UP THE END:
BERT = US READERS
ERNIE = MARK LAWRENCE AND PERHAPS JORG HIMSELF

AND TRYING TO PUT SOME THINGS TOGETHER TO MAKE SENSE OF THE END AS WELL (even though I now understand some foreshadow things )

Finishing this close to 1am on audio was totally worth it oh my gosh even though I was too tired to write a review later in the day hahaha but oh my gosh! This book! Seriously! What a ride and that ending was totally one of those rare twist kind of ending you don't see coming and although I want to talk about it and bring it up, I'm not one who personally likes to give or hide spoilers from my reviews but on the inside I'm dying here because it was just pure brilliance. Well, two particular twists that left me speechless and it was definitely a good way to finish Jorg's story.

I'm going to miss him because he was one of a kind and made me laugh once in a while and he was just pure fun. I know I'll get to the short stories book collection I have with him called Road Brothers one of these days, but I'm wanting to start the Red Queen's trilogy aka book one being [b:Prince of Fools|18693743|Prince of Fools (The Red Queen's War, #1)|Mark Lawrence|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1385072473l/18693743._SY75_.jpg|25595312] on audio because I had requested Prince of Fools and the last book for the audio's on RBDigital because my county library had all of the Broken Empire trilogy here on audio and same with all 3 Red Sister trilogy but they only had book 2 of Prince of Fools and I thought that wouldn't do me any good. hahaha. so I want to now start that trilogy for now since I did request the two audiobooks that weren't there and I may as well. :)

Anyway, onto this trilogy now that I'm done:

This was a great introduction to Jorg and his story and his ambitions of wanting to be King by the time he was 15 and of course he makes it after quite the adventures and even finding out some truths from his past. Jorg is a cutthroat ruthless boy prince who was surprisingly well written and Mark Lawrence did an amazing job at making a young character Jorg's age be pretty scary, yet you can't help but love him and root for him because in reality when you learn more of his story and his past, he was molded into who he was and you feel for him and see what's motivating him. Not only that, but he was definitely it seemed ahead of his time and just brilliant minded.

Still same old Jorg but as King and now he wants to become Emperor of a Broken Empire. This starts out on his wedding day to a young girl named Miana who I actually loved and even though child as she may as well have been from the looks of her and thinking Jorg is too much for her, *scoff* uh, on second thought....she may as well be his equal to me with some things she later did when there was an attack on hers and Jorg's wedding day. So she's one to not be underestimated and was full of surprises.

Watching the process of Jorg becoming emperor was interesting with many more fun twists and turns and just so much excitement basically. I don't have that much to say about this one without wanting to spoil it because this trilogy, even if you may not be a fan of high deep or dark fantasy is a must read. But if you're not feeling it in the first book. then that's okay but at least give the second book a try. Though that one wasn't as good as Prince of Thorn, Emperor of Thorns took a turn for me and became my favorite one of the trilogy all because of two major twists at/near the end of the book. So in order I liked Emperor, Prince, and then King. haha I know. a little weird order but this last book was just pure entertainment and I was listening to this for 2-3 days like crazy it seems while also doing puzzles on jigzone.com *laughing* but overall, bravo, well done and well written for my first dark high deep fantasy which is a genre (high fantasy in general) I'm a little picky with and now I can't wait to read more Mark Lawrence books! :) he's actually a very good writer, grabs your attention, the books aren't like 500+ pages or long dragged out series over 8 or 10 books, so to make them a trilogy and close to about 300-400ish pages or less than the latter is perfect hahaha.

Jorg of Ancrath, thank you for letting Mr. Lawrence tell your story because you are and were truly one of a kind and I'm going to miss you.

This was such a fun series. The books were easy to read, the main character was both hard to hate and easy love. This book was full of complex characters and a time and setting that really made me think and imagine the world that was described.

The Dark King's story arc felt rushed, with the Jorg's character being the most developed and interesting. I felt like a lot of the world and the characters were left underdeveloped. I can promise fun, fast reads, full of darkness.

Why don't people write books like this!!!.,this book is like a shot of pure Jack going down your throat..

Jorg is back, as mean, calculating, deviously intelligent and brutal as ever. And he means to take the throne, whatever be the cost.

It's time to cheer for the Bad Bad Vicious hero. And let me promise you this, without resorting to spoilers, you will NOT be disappointed..

Wow.... This book! This series! Jorg of Ancrath has to be one the most fleshed and well realised characters in fantasy. He's flawed but knows it. He can be downright evil but embraces it... because it's what he needs to do. I went from loathing him in the first book, to admiring him in the second and loving him in this final one. I'll miss Jorg and his band of brothers but I'm so grateful to have shared this journey with them.

Little Jorgy is all grown up. He became the Prince, the King, and now he must become the Emperor. It's not all about him anymore. Jorg has other priorities and they push him to do what must be done. He must face his demons, his brothers death haunts him. He must protect those he loves and no one can stand in his way. Unless they want to die.

What a bittersweet ending to an epic trilogy. I laughed, I cringed, I cried.

Just as with the last two books the non-linear story line and Mark's prose are a thing of magic.

How can one love Jorg when he has done such dark things?

“Dear lady, I killed them from youngest child to oldest woman, and when I was done I blunted three axes dismembering their corpses. I am Jorg of Ancrath—I burned ten thousand in Gelleth and didn’t think it too many.”

I have not quite figured out how I love Jorg so but he is dear in my heart.

It felt a little rushed getting to the end, but the actually ending was really good. Didn't see that coming. I'm interested to see where Prince of Fools goes, since that's in the same world, if I'm not mistaken. Especially given the, um... effects.
