An essential overview of a century's worth of Palestinian history. This book is educational and detailed, but not overly academic or dense.

At times, the author includes his own first hand accounts and those from family members. This adds an illuminating personal touch.

This was a very helpful and thoughtful overview of 100 years of intense history. I really appreciated the 1st person accounts and the author’s own experiences in this book, that aspect not only made the book more engaging but also made the impacts of occupation more immediate. The history minor in me loved that approach! This is a lot of history to go over in not a lot of time, so I do think in some parts it moved on too quickly, but I come away from this understanding the general arc of Palestine and how we’ve arrived at this particular moment in history. This history makes me hopeful that Palestine will be free and that colonization across the world will end.

I, like many others, am reading this in the midst of a genocide taking place in Palestine by the hands of the Israeli government and aided by the US (through support and funding) and the UK (through inaction). This book does an amazing job of taking you through the history of Palestine in a way that is accessible while remaining very academic. I appreciate the author using stories from his own family's experiences as well. We see such a pattern of behavior, of history repeating itself over and over again when it comes to the wars (if you can call some of these "conflicts", wars when the Palestinian people do not have an army) and it is so important that non-Palestinians make sure we are absorbing this information and sharing it.

Elevate Palestinian voices. Write to your state representatives, protest, share what is happening.

Outstanding. If you're short on time, even just the book's conclusion is a worthwhile and helpful primer on the Palestinian/Israeli situation.
