[Fourth Read - 4.75 stars - 2021]
Okay, I will admit that they talk about how dangerous of an assassin she is a bit too much. lol. I noticed it a bit more in this reread. It also really references a lot of events that didn't happen on page before she was imprisoned. These stories all show up in Assassin's Blade if I'm remembering correctly.

This was still a fun read. I still love Celaena even though she's arrogant. What can I say? I love a charming asshole... even when it's our main character. And why can't a woman be one too? I also really enjoy her interactions with both Dorian and Chaol. I noticed the side characters a bit more this time and
also the mentions of parallel universes and wyrdmarks. I read somewhere that all of SJM's books occur in the same universe, but in parallel universes and it was interesting to see how many mentions of it cropped up, even in this first book.

[Third Read - 4 stars - 2020]

I still really enjoyed this first book, but maybe not as much as other times. I think this series really hooks me in the next book and even more in the third one. So while I had fun reading it this go round, I'm really looking forward to digging in more in the rest of the books.

[Second Read - 5 stars - 2017]

This is my second time reading this book and I definitely picked up things I didn't catch the first time. I read the prequel, Assassin's Blade, before this (so I could read them chronologically) and mentions of the stories in that book were more enjoyable this time around since I knew what she was talking about. I still enjoy the main character, Celaena. I love her badassiness (I know, that's not a word) and still like her even when she's being arrogant and vain. I definitely prefer a lead female character with confidence than the low self-image other heroines seem to have.

This story definitely seems like a very loose retelling of Cinderella, in my opinion. I can't remember if I've already seen that mentioned so it's possible someone else planted that idea in my head. The middle was kind of slow, but since I already know this is a series, I actually enjoyed the slow pacing of the story. I love the worlds that Maas creates and I don't mind spending a lot of time in them.
