I liked this book more than the first installment, because it read more easily even though the stakes didn't feel as high as before due to the plot twist at the end of the previous novel. Nevertheless, I have to admit that I like Alizeh's POV way more than Kamran's (I often skimmed read his side of the novel because it felt slow and boring). In fact, I loved her and I was intrigued by everything that happened to her in Tulan and with Cyrus, whose story was fascinating to me. On the other hand, I never really cared about what was going on in Ardunia, and I found the chapters set there quite tedious. Despite this, generally speaking, I had  fun while reading this second installment, and I can't wait to get to the third one. In fact, Tahereh Mafi always writes cliff-angered endings that make you eager to pick up the sequels despite of the complaints you might have on the book.

I don't think that we advanced enough plot wise and I think we should have. Also I am conflicted regarding the love interests. I am not sold when it comes to either of them.

I can’t wait for the next book! There was something about this book that I was holding my breath for but didn’t happen and I think I’d normally rate it 4.5 stars but since it’s all about whole stars on here I’m rounding up not down because it was really everything I needed to be obsessed! I know that if I was an author I’d set my fans up like this, get them invested in book one and have them on edge in book two just to get them to feel the tensions release in book three … or if it’s a longer series book three will just ratchet up the tension HA!

Bottom line - I’m all in - these two books hooked me so fast and the way the chapters bounce between POV had the pace set just right to fly through and never want to put it down!! The sign of a good book (to me) is one I don’t want to stop reading but when I have to stop and do responsibilities all I think about is the story/the future of the characters !
