A Thousand Broken Pieces hit me hard. It kidnapped my heart, holding it hostage and digging out memories I had locked away. If A Thousand Boy Kisses is a tragic and heartbreaking love story about soulmates, A Thousand Broken Pieces is about grief and finding purpose after the death of someone you love.

Did I cry while reading it? Yes. Did I cry as much as with the first book? No. But it means it hurts less. Grief is something you carry with you forever. It can lessen, sometimes staying quietly asleep, and then hitting you full force in the face. It hurts, it shapes, it gripples.

A Thousand Boy Kisses is a sequel for those who stay behind, because the only way around grief is through. Savannah and Cale's story offers so many perspectives and different angles that I found it impossible not to feel seen and understood.

And yes, there is an underlying beautiful love story of finding your soulmate amid tragedy and where you least expect it. But its strength is so much bigger. Tillie Cole poured her heart into this book, and it shows. It is a starting point for healing, or at the very least, to put into words the void left by losing a person you love. It's powerful and universal.

Even better than the first one and that’s hard to do.
