Actual Rating: 3.5
This book has a good premise, even if it is not very unique. I usually love stories about fae, so that was a fun aspect of this book. However, I did not enjoy this book as much as I wanted to, mostly because of the characters. Noa really bothered me, and I felt like even from the beginning she was too dependent on others. It almost felt like her relationship with Callum was a little unhealthy. It made it really hard to enjoy reading about her when she didn't stand up for herself at all. Overall, the writing and plot is good, but this book is just not for me.

This book is part of the Booksparks Fall Reading Challenge. I always love taking part in their challenges because they have so many authors that I know and love, but then I also get books that I would have never picked up on my own.
I'm not usually a science fiction/fantasy girl, butI have to admit that I read this book in twenty four hours. The book starts out with Noa and her family grieving her sister, who has recently died in an accident. The family is broken, with everyone grieving on their own.
Noa previously boarded at school, but is now a commuter, so that she can be closer to her family. She is hollow, just going through the motions of life when Callum appears, a new kid at school.
This sets off a whole new chapter in Noa's life. A world where she is falling in love with a Fae, who is breaking all the rules by telling her of his existence in order to keep her safe.
When Callum's brother Judah suddenly shows up, everything starts going wrong. Callum is kidnapped, faefyre is appearing, and Noa's friends seem to be acting strange.
The book ends on a cliffhanger, because it's going to be a trilogy. What is it with the trilogy? When did that get to be a thing?
My one criticism is that the beginning relationship seemed very Twilight, and Callum didn't really do anything that made it understandable why Noa was immediately in love with him, but that did get better further into the book.
Good YA fantasy, appropriate for the teens in your life!

OK, so Im going to be honest and say that I did not like this book at all. Noa from the begin annoyed the hell out of me. I dont know, there was something about her I did not like and she confirmed that when she starting falling for the other brother, like noo. You lost me at making it into a love triangle at the end. Nope, I did not bother finishing the book. By then I just started to skim through the pages towards the end. It honestly a weird story that did not catch my interest that much. I would not be reading the next book. Sorry.
I am so conflicted about this book. Loved the beginning, couldn't stand the middle, and the end was relatively interesting. I'll have to think about this review a bit more...

Most of people who have selected this, is because of beautiful cover art-work - that includes me as well.
The story started very depressing and at one point it became so much that I stopped reading and thinking of skipping this one. But then I forced myself to finish this one, because of late, I am keeping many novels unfinished. I still don't know whether I regret the decision or not :)
It has been 2 days I finished this one, and still I don't know how I feel or what to feel. Author has good imagination, but I thought there are so many things at once. The twist at the end is also not appealing to me.
When Jedah entered the story I though it is Vampire diaries again, and it is something like that but again I got confused about the weird love triangle.
All in all I feel that the most beautiful part of entire novel is, and remains, cover-art.

A really good book, kept me interested. I liked her twist on the Fae world and its colors, portal etc. Not being a teenager, I wasn't as interested in all the long drawn-out emotional scenes. Characters were well done and likable.
I found the book incredibly awkward in its pacing, its dialogue, the interactions between the characters. The concept had potential, I liked the idea of different kinds of Fae and the idea of Light, but the execution of the story itself seemed to fall short for me. By the end, there were so many different twists being revealed, one right on top of the other, that it all felt forced and too much, like the author just wanted to pack as much shock as possible into as few pages as possible. The one aspect that I did enjoy though was the poetry. Noa, the main protagonist, is a poet and so some of the descriptors that she put to things and to people were very exciting bits of imagery and her poems throughout were all extremely well-done, my favorites in particular being Lost Girls and Mermaid Hearts.
Definitely a lot of potential, but failed to hit the mark for me personally. I won't be reading the rest of this series.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. The world building was fantastic and I definitely loved Noa and the poetry but the let down for me was the insta-love and the love triangle - for whatever reason I just couldn't get over it. That being said, I don't think this was an overall bad read & I would definitely still recommend it to a few friends I know would love reading about the Fae world.

This was a solidly great book, that has the potential to become a really great series. The writing is very different and the story between Noa, Callum and Judah and starts building in part 1, by part 2 your finally understand and your completely hooked, the pieces to this puzzle are falling into place, by the ending, your completely smashed and want nothing more than the next book. Lauren Bird Horowitz has written a beautiful, emotionally rich new kind of fairytale. I really loved this.
