I loved this book about Bina and her brothers! I learned about a holiday honoring brothers and sisters that I didn't know about, and the book was a great way to teach kids about pattern making. Bina even does two different types of patterns to show that alternating every other of something isn't necessarily the only way to establish a pattern.

A sweet and fun story about celebrating the Hindu holiday of Raksha Bandhan! A great read for kinds and a fun look into a Hindu holiday! A perfect read for kids with siblings and it definitely makes you want to start crafting!
For Raksha Bandhan each year, sisters give brothers a bracelet to keep them safe. Bina picks one special bead for each brother based on his interests and asks each brother about his favorite colors. After purchasing the beads, Bina makes each brother a bracelet and creates a very simple pattern in the beads - blue, green, blue, green or orange, orange, green, green, for example. The brothers make Bina a beaded necklace - with no pattern. Back matter includes a cultural note about Raksha Bandhan as well as suggestions for other patterns to explore and thoughts on comparing and contrasting patterns.
Beautiful, rich in tradition, and helps kids with math to boot!
This story is adorable! The illustrations are super fun and it ever so subtly includes math.

A charming sweet book that involves math, crafts, and the Indian holiday of Raksha Bandan. It is wonderful to see a book about this holiday which treasures sibling relationships. The art is bright and adorable.
