While I appreciate the cultural and family aspects of this book, and being introduced to a new Indian holiday honoring siblings, the story, focused on patterns in math, fell a bit short and the writing read as didactic especially when the "problem" to be solved felt too simple and forced.
So much love for this book! It reinforces math concepts like logic and patterns in a way that makes sense for the story - a young girl is making bracelets for her brothers to celebrate the Hindu holiday of Raksha Bandhan. I can almost guarantee that I don't have any other books in my collection about Raksha Bandhan, so this is also a book that's going to introduce that holiday to some members of my community and ensure that the holiday is represented on our shelves.
This picture book is a must read for children. Not only this helps them with learning about patterns, it is a book based around an important Indian festival, Rakshabandhan, that celebrates the love of siblings.
Illustrations are super cute and I loved the colourful pallets. That perfectly symbolises how truly colourful the Indian culture is!
Definitely recommended for all kids. This would be a beautiful gift indeed.

Note: I accessed digital review copies of this book through NetGalley and Edelweiss.
I'd never heard of this practice before! This book is very cute and would be great for siblings.
I received an eARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Bracelets for Bina's Brothers takes the reader on a brightly colored journey through Raksha Bandhan, highlighting the importance of sibling love and care.
Not only is it a heartwarming story it also is useful in helping guardians to teach young readers about patterns, something that will then be helpful for them with regards to Maths later on in life. Be sure to check out the helpful maths ideas in the back of the book.
