I got this book as a gift and I am very gratefull for it! I enjoyed it quite a bit.
I liked the drama and characters. I like how vices were used in this book and some story elements were very funny.

As the subject of my latest Robots Read post, I consider the goodreads rating system and why this ended up being a three instead of a four.

I was unsure about reading this book in the series as the blurb and some reviews I read suggested it might not be for me.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I should never have doubted Meredith Duran!

I can see why the FMC put some people off, she is “unlikeable” but only in the sense that she has obvious flaws. To me that just made her a well rounded character.

The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is the ending was a bit too convenient for my liking after all the turmoil. I mean yes I knew there would be a HEA, the “solution” just seemed too easy for the build up.

Looking forward to picking up the next in the series. Resisting doing so straight away as I need to sleep.

I enjoyed this book a lot, even though there were plenty of ambiguities about exactly when it was taking place. I get the heading that says 1885 right before chapter one, but some of the language and some of the cultural references seem more early twentieth-century to me. Still; Michael, the duke's-brother-turned-country-doctor, was an appealing hero, and I especially enjoyed being in on the thoughts of Liza, the heroine, who does a lot of questioning about herself, her feelings, and her motives. The house party scene is amusing, as is the Midsummer celebration in Cornwall. I was always eager to get back to this book, and I'm a little sad that it's over. Light and entertaining.

Why did I wait so long to read all the Meredith Duran books I've acquired during various Kindle sales? I have been MISSING OUT.

I loved Elizabeth Chudderley as she floated around the edges of other books Duran has written, and I'm so glad she finally gets her own happy ending. I loved Michael's desire to heal his brother and also to protect those who were relying on him, although I don't necessarily agree with how he did it (which is part of the point, yeah?) I really liked the clash of their mutual needs, and the banter between them was ever so lovely. And gosh, the sexual tension, mmmmm.

I liked the complicated way their secrets intertwined, and the conflict (while based on keeping secrets) was fascinating and excellent. I liked how vividly the setting and the histories were drawn without getting into long drawn-out wandering musings - it was always just enough.

Dejlig let historisk romantisk fortælling om 1890'ernes London overklasse.
