Reeeeally didn't like how comfy the author was with describing the mass murders during the Holocaust as an extermination. I also thought the section about Rosalind Franklin really undersold the sexism and antisemitism she was working against.

A cogent, comprehensive review of our understanding of genetics through the course of human civilization. This was written very accessibly so that even those with a minimal background in the sciences could digest and enjoy. I really enjoyed the way Mukherjee interspersed the history of genetics with the histories of the people who were consequential to discovering more about it, whether they be patients or scientists, as well as his own family history that definitely added a layer of depth to the book and gave it very human stakes.

Very much historical. Recounting the discoveries (and rediscoveries) along the path to our current understanding of genetics. 

Final section had some interesting reflections on present/future, possibly even more so when looking in 2025 at a book published in 2016. (And the author is notably aware of this effect).
