It was good. I found the dialogue a tad gimmicky, but I get that the author was attempting to place emphasis on the accents. It was an easy read, and overall I did enjoy the book.

I won this ebook in a goodreads giveaway. I had no idea what I was getting into. I don’t read synopsis … only choose books by their cover. As I started reading this I first thought it would probably be a DNF for me. It was not my usual type of read. Turns out to have lots of shock factor. I was triggered to say the least. I was disgusted at times but overall really enjoyed reading this book.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've read Paige Dearth's other books, so I was excited when I saw this on Netgalley. Her books are so emotional. She writes about the nitty gritty. Some parts of this book are hard to read, some parts are heartbreaking. I'm definitely a fan of this author and I will continue to read her books.

I did find some parts unbelievable, but it did not take away from the overall enjoyment of this book.

Egads! This wasn't what I thought it was, and yet, it's super strong. One little boy, bullied beyond coping, shares his life story. This book is real, gritty, dark, and sad. Where are this child's mentors? Where are so many people missing from his life. Then the ending, it goes to book #2. This book is so hard to review. It's strong on reality and low on hope and love.

My copy came from Net Galley. My thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is left of my own free volition.

This story begins when Tony Bruno is 7 years old and follows him through young adulthood. It is bleak, brutal, and at times shocking. Life for Tony is nothing but pain. He is taunted, beaten and bullied nearly to death by his classmates, belittled and beaten at home by his good for nothing father, friendless and alone in his misery. He is subjected to every abuse imaginable. Physical, emotional, and later sexually assaulted, which was quite difficult to read...I had to put this book down twice and walk away for a bit.
At 13 he is tossed out of his home with nowhere to turn. Tony ends up in a gang and later in the mob. There are few friendly faces amidst all this turmoil. He meets a kindly older woman and her grand daughter who become his surrogate family, and a girl he falls in love with, but his gangster lifestyle attracts danger to those closest to him. This was an emotional read, that at times had me enraged, disgusted, and sometimes in tears.

I received a complimentary copy for review.

Was just graphic for graphic sake and no depth to any of the characters. Could have been so good, but missed the mark in my opinion. Received this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

I wasn't a big fan of this book, as you can see from my rating. Actually, I forced myself to read it, just because I had to do a review.
I'm not afraid of violence in the books, and there is a lot of it in this one. But the thing is, that it seemed like those scenes were put in this book just for shock factor. This book just oozed with blood.
Another thing that bothered me was, that author decided to spoil every upcoming chapter, by telling, that Tony (the main character) didn't know how bad it will be in the future. Why? Isn't it better for the reader to find out it by reading it eventually?
I can't say a lot about the characters. They were boring, predictable, made decisions, that didn't have any sense.
After I reached the middle of this book, I started to skip pages, because I just couldn't torture myself by reading everything.

Sorry to say this, but I don't recommend it.

Bullied and abused youth, Tony Bruno became a member of the mob. Hard to put down once you start. This is a work of fiction, it is easy to imagine that these things do happen in real life. Be prepared to cry even when seeing that good can come out of the broken. A very emotional book and heartbreaking.

This book was definitely brutal and hard to read yet I couldn’t put the book down. The little boy went through so much and it’s really eye opening as to how some people are so cruel to others.
