Meeeeh

It was just okay. The end got a little messy and felt dragged out. Ended up being more about basketball than the actual romance.

2.5 stars. This one has more angst and less sweetness.

Ok so is technically a review of volume 1 and 2 as a whole since I read them both in one sitting.

It was alright. Like not incredible and pretty forgettable but not the worst thing I ever read either.

The story was kind of a mess and has no focus, the romance isn’t super well written and the characters are not super well developed. But some stuff were pretty cute or kinda funny. I didn’t hate reading it but I would not recommend it either.

Like I said, it was alright.

The second and, apparently, final volume of the series. Again, this is cute and features beautiful art. I especially like how Caly draws clothing; the characters are chic dressers, and their outfits look so soft and pretty. I wish there were more of this series, because the characters are fun, their relationships have enough friction to be interesting, and the situations introduced in these first two installments have the potential to change in exciting ways. I like slice-of-life series, so I would have read more. But alas. As is, Breath of Flowers was an enjoyable, if brief, interlude.

In some ways, this volume was even more problematic than the first.
SpoilerAccusing someone of sexual abuse is a pretty big thing to do, and I am not convinced that the book does enough to explore the issues here. The fact that so many victims of sexual violence go unheard just because people assume they are making it up is a huge issue. Seeing a character actually do so for purely selfish reasons (and then only getting a slap on the wrist) felt majorly wrong to me. In a better book, we would have had a parallel character experience the consequences of that kind of lie. Sorry author, but I am having a hard time seeing the comedy here.
On the plus side, Gwyn and Azami got some cute scenes together.
