The author provided such a detailed, vivid narrative. She’s a great storyteller.
Kind of slow, some chapters were better stories than others.
I didn't enjoy reading this book and I did lose interest in it. Whilst it included some good writing throughout, it felt like just a collect of the individual stories which didn't come together to provide an overall plot.

I really wanted this book to be closer to a 5!! I loved the synopsis of the story, Matriarch of the family, following her 12 children as they grow and expand out in their adult journeys, sounded so good!
I definitely enjoyed the writing of this author! The descriptions were so vivid I felt or tasted or saw everything she described.
But I think it was the structure of this story that was kind of confusing. Each chapter focuses on each child but some chapters were back in the day, some were showcasing them as an adult, some gave lengths of time from adolescence to adult. So we bounced around quite a bit. And also some intertwined with the others and some didn’t. I think it would’ve been more enjoyable if the timeline was a little more fluid or if this was a collection of short stories.
