This story was better than the previous ones, but too long. It would have been better if a 100 pages had been edited out.

I want to love this series so much more than I currently am... Not quite sure why these books aren't quite clicking with me, but I'm finding it hard to relate to the characters and perhaps I'm just burnt out on the whole vampire/immortality gig.

Charlie is a refreshing heroine, she's a former alcoholic, a once singer trying to clean up her life before finding herself targeted by Vampires trying to get to her sister. Throw in a confusing storyline about a Cowboy Guardian Angel, demons and plots to take over the world (and a prophecy) and it all becomes a bit too much!

One plus is the introduction of Jake who just seems purely adorakable.

I really enjoyed this book because both of the characters were authentic and their individual stories blended well together. Drifter is a admirable character though I found his dialogue a little thick and sometimes gratuitous at times. Charlie was a good balance for him and. The story had a great balance between their building relationship and the general flow of the story as a whole. The plot moved well and was action packed. A great read.

Interesting, unusual, fully-rounded characters who live and breathe and fit well together, as usual. Highly recommended!

So many things happening. I love everything Meljean writes and this is no exception. The worldbuilding, the action, the spice

"you tell yourself that it makes you feel good - but really, you're just getting by. because you feel like shit with it, but you REALLY feel like shit without it."

"maybe i should be wondering why you ain't asking. so i figure it must be one of those things that don't mean nothing if you got to ask for it."

I read the Iron Duke first, and loved it, so I thought I would try the author's earlier series. Based on her website, she actually recommends starting with this book first, which is the third in the series, because the heroine is new to the world of the Guardians, and you get a pretty detailed explanation of their world. I agree with her suggestion, because I didn't feel like I jumped into something halfway through. I think it's a great story, and the series gets even better from here.

Not into it. I didn't enjoy the hero's aw shucks cowboy shtick nor that the heroine's beloved sister would stay with the man who turned her sister into a vampire. Not Cool.
