Not as good as the other Halo books, probably because its a straight adaptation of Halo:Combat Evolved.

Fail. Not even mildly interesting. This book is 90% "Then the Chief shot this guy, then he threw a grenade at these guys and then he ran to the next room, and he shot this guy with a 7.99mm bullet, and killed 4 guys with a 108mm rocket, and another flying guy came and he shot that guy too..."

Mind-numbingly badly written. Yes two adverbs. The story takes backseat to the action, which is cluttered nonsensical and confusing. Poor. Book 1 was ∞ better.

This book was so bad, I had to retroactively change my Fall of Reach review from 2 stars to 3 because it just didn't seem fair to be so harsh on it after reading this pos. Suddenly Eric Nylund's merely serviceable writing doesn't seem so bad. Really, truly, even if you are a big Halo fan, don't bother with this book.

Really wasn’t expecting this to just be the game, recreated in minute detail. The other storylines kept enough of my interest to not stop reading, but still had pretty flat characterizations. The best relationship in the whole book, IMO, was the weird dynamic between the grunt Yayap, and the Elite he gets stuck with. In fact, Yayap might have been the character with the most depth in the book. He was certainly my favorite. In the end, it was nice to experience the story again, as sort of a refresher for me as I continue on to get to the expanded universe books of this series.

This book isn't actually all that bad but not dragged down just by the simple fact that it's a reinterpretation of Combat Evolved, the first Halo game. A lot of the depth from The Fall of Reach is gone and now it's all focused on action. The twists and turns are pretty well executed but I just want often interested. I think this is an average book, that is actually far better than it has any right being, because this could have been a complete travesty.

Pretty boring to be honest, it’s very much a paid for transcript of the Halo: Combat Evolved game with lackluster storytelling added.
