This volume is the most Green Lantern that X-O Manowar (which is pretty Green Lanterny) has felt so far. While the Dead Hand in this volume doesn't have the same powers as Black Hand in Green Lantern, it does appear to pose an Extreme Threat to Earth and the rest of the universe. If this series had been longer, it could have been a very memorable villain. As it plays out, it's just another easily defeated villain pushed aside within a few issues by the might of X-O Manowar. Oh, sure, this time he has to call upon the Lantern Co---the, uhh, the Armor Army? He calls upon the other suited warriors who must decide whether or not to assist X-O in his quest to defend Earth from suffering the fate of other planets that have been supernovaed out of existence by Mogo --- I'm sorry, by Ego The Livi --- I'm sorry, The Death St--- No? Oh, yes, Dead Hand.

There are some solid character moments in this story, though there is a completely unnecessary Child Seperated From His Mother Must Be Pitied Tearjerker moment that made me sigh quite deeply, not out of sympathy for the character. Overall, this was a good, if not entirely original sci-fi story with enough heart to have me excited for the next volume and the next disposable enemy.
