I’m too afraid of the what ifs. I’m done being that person. Even if it means getting hurt, I’d rather try and fail than never try at all.

Me encantó. Iris es una girlboss que la rompe en este libro. Amé ver como Declan se iba derritiendo poco a poco por ella

Just did not like his character. Also not a huge fan of the slightly abusive second chance romance aspect

I’m somewhat torn because I hated Rowan sm in The Fine Print and I deffo preferred Declan…until
that third act argument omg. The things he said were awful and he never properly apologised, just bought her things and promised her a family. Which, sure they were kind of cute together in moments but when you consider their 12(?) year age gap there’s a lot of behaviours he really needs to be nipping in the bud.

The story felt a bit bogged down with stuff that wasn’t fun and the smut was good but I don’t think it hit the levels that The Fine Print did.

So I’m in a weird position where I preferred The Fine Print as a whole, but slightly preferred Declan to Rowan.

TW ~ physically/ verbally abusive parents, abusive relationships

Declan needs to get married and have a child to become the CEO of his grandfathers company. While competing with his father for the spot. All marriage partners run away when Declan’s assistant Iris offers to fill the position. Iris is afraid of a relationship like her parents and wards off love.

I LOVR IRIS! She is amazing and can do no wrong

This was so cute! I loved the tension, banter and slow burn. The word game was so sweet! It was fun to get those little foreign vocab lessons.

Iris is THAT girl. She’s hardworking, witty, and smart. I loved her character and the strength she showed to stand her ground and continue pursuing her own goals.

I have two issues with this book. Firstly, they definitely have some lingering issues regarding Declan’s commitment to work and controlling hatred for his father, and Iris’s constant sacrifices to support Declan’s career and her fears of experiencing the same hurt as her mother. I feel like these difficulties (specifically regarding how they affect their relationship) were “resolved” a little too quickly. They definitely should’ve unpacked that baggage a little more. I need them (especially Declan) to go to therapy.

Secondly, the having a baby portion of the contract and the discussions around it was also brushed over and made to seem like it was no big deal. Iris clearly understood the lifelong commitment but Declan did not and it was disappointing to see that even in the epilogue, Iris is the one that had to make sacrifices to build their family while Declan was focused on his company.
