Sometimes I start reading a book blurb and without even getting to the end, it’s already on my library holds! Such is the case here. Edwardian England historical LGBTQIA fiction with magic? Into it! If you’re familiar with hard vs. soft magic systems, this one is somewhat in the middle, but the more defined elements when it came to land magic were fascinating. The power of land both in a historical and present context can be so strong, and I love how Marske wove this into her fantasy world here. The romance element was very heartfelt and cute. There’s a beautiful, hilarious contrast between the messiness of falling in love vs. two buttoned-up proper Englishmen. Fair warning this is very much an “open door” romance, so not the book for you if you’re not into getting those details! I’m definitely going to pick up the sequel.
