I wanted this to be a 5 star read SO BAD. I liked the characters, the story was interesting enough, but honestly the magic system was so confusing. I still don't understand a lot of the plot points because it was just poorly explained, and it didn't help that I found it hard to read the writing style. I had to read some parts out loud to fully get what was happening. it was alright.

I think it’s a lovely story, I just found the pacing a bit off. It took me awhile to really get into it. But as soon as the characters get fleshed out more and the mystery grows it is quite enjoyable. I also didn’t expect so many spicy scenes.

I’m no fantasy fan, but this was exquisite. Pitch perfect writing, steamy as hell, and overall wonderful. Definite contender for book of the year already!
