It's not the original Mistborn series, but this follow up series is plenty fun to read. I'd say the only thing that holds it back is that the writing style has gotten slightly less compelling; the characters are a bit less fleshed out, and are prone to some frustrating cliches and one-dimensionality. That said, I enjoyed this book more than 4 and 5, and have generally come to like the follow up series more than I'd expected after reading the 4th book. Looking forward to the conclusion!

This was EPIC. And what?! It’s not over!!! (YES!!) There’s gonna be a conclusion book, entitled The Lost Metal? I AM SO HERE FOR IT.

I fell in love with everyone again here. Love!

Whew, what a book. I had enjoyed Era 2 so far, but I hadn't been thrown a heater like The Final Empire or The Well of Ascension. Well, this is that heater. So much growth happened for the cast and there was never a period where the story dragged. But man, I have SO many questions after finishing this.

4.75 stars* because the ending had me screaming. What in the actual ever-loving
fuck
?! I'm . . . I'm too stunned to write out any of the points I had about the rest of the book. The characters somehow become more like caricatures the further we go, yet more lovable by the page. Epic adventure, grand romance, and by (almost) the end, there's the feeling of puzzle pieces coming masterfully together—only to have the surface on which the puzzle is resting to be blown apart (things do tend to explode around Wax, after all).

*It would be 5, but it's docked a bit because I'm still not loving the way he writes women or Wayne's creepy fetishism of WLW.

reread before starting The Lost Metal!

Probably my favourite of the Mistborn books so far! The characters really shone in this one, and it's exciting to see the early stages of how the magic system is going to develop. Would be five stars if I didn't find action scenes boring...
