The traitor queen- 4⭐️ 3🌶️

Lara has only one thought when her husband is taken prisoner: I will do whatever it takes to set you free.

A queen now in exile as a traitor, Lara has watched Ithicana be conquered by her own father, helpless to do anything to stop the destruction. But when she learns her husband, Aren, has been captured in battle, Lara knows there is only one reason her father is keeping him alive: as bait for his traitorous daughter.
And it is bait she fully intends to take.

Risking her life to the Tempest Seas, Lara returns to Ithicana with a plan not only to free its king, but for liberating the Bridge Kingdom from her father's clutches using his own weapons: the sisters whose lives she spared.

But as Lara and her companions formulate a plan to free Aren from her father's palace, they soon discover that while it is easy to get in, it will be quite another thing to get Aren, and themselves, back out. Not only is the palace inescapable, there are more players in the game than Lara ever realized, enemies and allies switching sides in the fight for crowns, kingdoms, and bridges. But her greatest adversary of all might be the very man she's trying to free - the husband she betrayed.
With everything she loves in jeopardy, Lara must decide who - and what - she is fighting for: her kingdom, her husband, or for herself.

✨My Opinion✨

Betrayal
Exiled queen
Daring rescue
Great side characters
Political intrigue.

The action was non-stop, which helped a lot with missing big plot holes.

Some loose ends were tied up quick and off page, which I didn’t love.

Now it seems like their story is complete and I wonder about who we will be following for the next 5 proposed books? Will this exhaust the series, being so long? I see that the brother is the next focus… I’m assuming 2 books for him too… then 2 books for the king’s sister?

Oh my God, I am addicted to this book and finished it within 24 hours. Even though I read a lot, I very rarely do that. I could not put this book down. It was gripping it was exciting. My heart was beating at the end I literally had to call my body down because adrenaline was pumping through my veins, the last few chapters of the book.

I didn’t love the first book, but I absolutely devoured this one to the point where I’m upset I don’t have the next one already on my bookshelf.

I found this book was a perfect balance between fantasy romance. Yes, there was a lot of romance but the plot character development, world building, etc. did not suffer for it. And that’s what I like in fantasy romance.

After I read The Inadequate Heir, I don’t know what I’m gonna do with myself because I don’t know if I can find another book that is going to make me feel the way this book made me feel!

Incredible plot, I loved how the politics and alliances between countries gain importance to the point of actually determining the future of a complete nation. This made the hole book feel incredibly real.

Keris' intentions were masterfully managed, I kept wondering what was truly end game for him though out the hole book.
An other highlight was the guilt and rage Lara felt at first fully understanding how she had been manipulated and then realizing the full consequences of her actions. She felt painfully human.

Good gravy, this book stressed me out! From one high stakes event to the next, this book was nonstop perilous action. I felt for Lara as she tried SO HARD to atone for her mistakes. And I completely understood Aren’s emotional turmoil, but it tore me apart!

I loved it. I loved the slight reversal of their rolls. I LOVED her sisters! I wish there was more of them. Her brother was an interesting character (I’ll see you in he next book Keris).

I’ve seen a lot of people saying Lara deserved better I don’t quite understand why I will say I’d have preferred the book to continue a bit more to show the aftermath of the war and rebuilding and Lara earning everyone’s trust.

Overall I loved it. I would’ve finished it in two days instead of three if it weren’t for the real world and jobs and responsibilities.

I really wanted to like this book because the previous one left off on such a massive cliff hanger. I read so many reviews saying this book was even better than the first. That, however, was not my take. I do think there was far more action and danger than the first book, that I enjoyed.

I didn't enjoy
how it was ended. Honestly, I think the author took a cop out. I don't honestly see how the kingdom can accept Lara as even a citizen, let alone Queen after everything that happened. The superstition introduced in the very last few pages should have been introduced so much sooner, I feel, to really have an impact. I think the redemption would have been better if she had died killing her father.

The action was great, the ending I did not enjoy.
