War has a much bigger play in this book but still the characters are so wonderful!

4.5

One of the best read this year !!

I really enjoyed the plot and how it unfolded at the end. It was a bit slow during the desert part but that was fair honestly. The characters were awesome and the tension between Aren and Lara was perfect ! The ennemies to lovers was incredible and I said that as someone who isn't fond of them.

The first one, whilst lacking in world-building, had strong and likeable characters I could get behind. I'm giving this one a generous two stars for the plot, which again, was pretty fun and complex. It started off great with the reunion of certain characters mentioned in the first book, but then went in a totally different direction and we never heard from them again -- such wasted potential! The FMC was put in more and more ridiculous misogynistic situations to humiliate her without it adding anything to the narrative -- all whilst the love interest stood by and watched. I couldn't get behind their relationship anymore and the dialogue/chemistry between them was pretty bad which was such a shame.

I enjoyed this book more than the first, but much like the first novel, this one also had more detail than was necessary to tell the story, and ultimately felt slow for such an exciting storyline.

The best parts of the story were meeting Laura’s sisters, and the heist to get Aren out of Maradrena. The scenes when Laura and Aren were reunited and fleeing across the desert were also far more enjoyable than most of their previous interactions, but that was kind of where my enjoyment of their relationship ended. The sex scene when Laura was literally nearly passing out from pain and blood loss was, quite simply, terrible.

The ending was
something of a cop out. So much emphasis was placed on Aren’s people refusing to accept her. The culture was never portrayed as superstitious throughout the two books, but one “trial by shark” later and Laura is exonerated. Had there been a traitor’s execution that Laura witnessed in the first book, and the superstition explained, I would have been much more on board.

All in all, some fun excitement and hey, it was free. I don’t see myself reading the next two books, though.

The traitor queen- 4⭐️ 3🌶️

Lara has only one thought when her husband is taken prisoner: I will do whatever it takes to set you free.

A queen now in exile as a traitor, Lara has watched Ithicana be conquered by her own father, helpless to do anything to stop the destruction. But when she learns her husband, Aren, has been captured in battle, Lara knows there is only one reason her father is keeping him alive: as bait for his traitorous daughter.
And it is bait she fully intends to take.

Risking her life to the Tempest Seas, Lara returns to Ithicana with a plan not only to free its king, but for liberating the Bridge Kingdom from her father's clutches using his own weapons: the sisters whose lives she spared.

But as Lara and her companions formulate a plan to free Aren from her father's palace, they soon discover that while it is easy to get in, it will be quite another thing to get Aren, and themselves, back out. Not only is the palace inescapable, there are more players in the game than Lara ever realized, enemies and allies switching sides in the fight for crowns, kingdoms, and bridges. But her greatest adversary of all might be the very man she's trying to free - the husband she betrayed.
With everything she loves in jeopardy, Lara must decide who - and what - she is fighting for: her kingdom, her husband, or for herself.

✨My Opinion✨

Betrayal
Exiled queen
Daring rescue
Great side characters
Political intrigue.

The action was non-stop, which helped a lot with missing big plot holes.

Some loose ends were tied up quick and off page, which I didn’t love.

Now it seems like their story is complete and I wonder about who we will be following for the next 5 proposed books? Will this exhaust the series, being so long? I see that the brother is the next focus… I’m assuming 2 books for him too… then 2 books for the king’s sister?

This was a fantastic sequel to The Bridge Kingdom. This story is jam packed with action from the very beginning. I had such a great time reading this and can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this world.
