Absolutely wonderful!

But he would have been wrong. Solitude is a human presumption. Every quiet step is a thunder to beetle life underfoot, a tug of impalpable thread on the web pulling mate to mate and predator to prey, a beginning or an end. Every choice is a world made new for the chosen.

FIRST LINE REVIEW: "Her body moved with the frankness that comes from solitary habits." Another incredible book from Kingsolver! She has such a gift for being educational and profoundly moving at the same time. To make us care deeply about people and the creatures who share the world with them. As Deanna's body moved through this book -- brashly, openly, confidently -- so too does Kingsolver lead us through the solitary job of "living" in this world and, hopefully, taking something with us when we return to our more cluttered society.

I enjoyed this book, wavering between 3 and 4 stars. Three main characters whose lives we follow- one of them I enjoyed all the way through, the second character I hated but understood his arch and by the end they warmed up for me, and the third was steamy fun but their ending disappointed me a bit. Not what I would picture for them. Overall still very enjoyable.

One of the most beautifully written books I have read in a long time. I savored it. Barbara Kingsolver has created a masterpiece with this novel.

This is an absolutely beautifully written book, I really don’t even know where to start. First of all the amount of knowledge about nature, wildlife, insects, evolution, etc. is just astonishing. The way the three completely separate stories came together on their own and then began to weave together was thoroughly intriguing, and surprisingly not unsatisfactory. Even though you feel you really only scratch the surface of these characters, somehow that’s OK, it really just leads you to believe that there’s much more to know, and someday they will find out these things about each other, while other things might always remain hidden, and it seems as though that’s OK too. There’s just no one else who writes like Barbara Kingsolver.
