4 freaking stars because Miles was quite literally giving boy obsessed! The smut was mind blowing and I absolutely adored Miles. I never thought a hockey romance could have dark elements to it, but here we fucking are. The only reason I cut a star was because the book was unnecessarily long and felt dragged out to me. Also there wasn't any real plot like??? Like the author just decided to throw in a murder and a stalker more than halfway through. There were so many questions that were left unanswered towards the end that had me feeling dissatisfied. Regardless, it was a pretty good read overall and I would recommend it. As I mentioned before, Knox is a grade A asshole and he can choke. BUT I also wanna see him get his redemption arc and to meet the woman that will bring him to his knees hehehehhe. Also, I will def not be reading the previous two books in this series after getting glimpses of the couples in this book because 1. Apparently, Greyson is a limp dicked pussy who simply cannot take ownership for his shitty actions. 2. I absolutely do not want to read about Steele who got a bj from his best friend's (Greyson's) gf (Violet) - even if it was before he got tg with Aspen - get his own story like NO...it's giving Kai from the Devil's Night series ifykyk (hence why I'm staying away from those books lol). With that being said, I will be continuing with this series and I really look forward to reading Jacob's book next. It seems pretty intriguing to me :)

- h is the H's older brother's ex (dw the brother didn't have any feelings for the h and the h only had misguided feelings for her ex)
- no OW/slight OM drama (nothing major)
- no cheating/sharing
- OTT + J/P H
- no condoms
- it's implied that the H has been celibate since he first saw the h (he's a year younger than her)
- push and pull + tension
- somnophilia, orgasm denial, insertion, anal play, CNC/dub con, control/power play, murder and violence, scenes with explicit sexual content, etc

These just keep getting more unhinged, and I am here for it.

Ok...so after reading all the currently published books in this series, Secret and Twisted are the best. I still think Tiwsted pulls ahead just a bit, but this one makes a very close second.

MILES....the first half of this book he was a full on sociopath and was hard to read about. But later on in the book I liked him a lot more (after throwing my morals and feminism out the window). Willow annoyed me a bit at the very end though. Saying things to purposely hurt Miles. Ugh. I wanted to slap her through the book.

So I'm thinking I'm gonna rate this one the same as Twisited because they come so close in ranking.

Out of all of the Hockey Gods, Miles is hands down my FAVORITE man. This man will do anything for his girl, literally anything!

He is so sweet, kind, and also a bit crazy (just how I like them)

If you haven’t read Brutal Obsession and Devious Obsession, I highly recommend reading them before Secret Obsession! This series is worth it!!!

Wow what an intense, spicy, emotional rollercoaster read. I wanted to not like Miles especially in the beginning lol but I freakin love him. And I love how Willow fights back. This book was is so good. But be sure to check triggers because it is dark and suspensful. Will keep you on the race edge of your seat. Definitely recommend.

DNF at 70%. This is the most boring thing I’ve ever listened to. I just can’t do it anymore. I simply don’t care.

I was not ready for Miles Whiteshaw and Willow Reed! I thought I was, but nope.

Having read the previous two books in the Hockey Gods series (not necessary, but helps), I fell for Miles. I could see that attraction he had to Willow, and how her current relationship was not sitting well with him.

Now when that breakup between Willow and Knox happened, my jaw dropped a bit, and my heart broke for Willow. I wanted to smack Knox upside the head. BUT THEN that thing that happened with Miles? WHAT?!? I mean I knew that this was going to be a dark romance, but I wasn't expecting Miles to do THAT! My word.

It was that event that catapulted the relationship. It was that event that bonded them, even if it wasn't wanted. It was also that event that brought these to together to see that they were meant to be. It was just an interesting path to their HEA.

I really did enjoy the story, the romance, the steam, the suspense, and the characters. I had read the triggers/content warnings, so I knew it might push me a bit. I will openly admit that it did push my comfort levels a smidgen. Just a teeny tiny amount. But honestly while it toed the line, it didn't completely bother me, especially since this is a fictional story. Now had that happened in real life, I'd feel differently. That's just me.

oooof the burnnnn

Talk about a fucking rollercoaster. SECRET OBSESSION will take readers on a journey that feels unfamiliar for S Massery's male leads but also festers in the back on your mind like an itch you cannot scratch until you reach the end.

So what happens when you see the girl first but your brother swoops in and secures her first? Okay, but what if he absolutely shatters her heart because he made a bet she’d fall in love with him? What do you do now that she’s broken and won’t accept any sort of love… let’s ask Miles shall we?

Miles Whiteshaw exceeded all of my expectations. He was such a complex character who defied Sara’s typical MMC mold. Unlike the intense and deranged hockey gods of the previous books, Miles reveals himself to be a domineering control freak with a surprising kind heart. His moments of sweetness, which occur more frequently than anticipated, overshadow his much darker tendencies. As I went through Miles' words and actions, I found myself torn between hating him and falling head over heels in love with him. There are moments that may challenge readers, particularly those who share a need for control themselves, as they witness Willow's internal struggle to let go and trust.

The chemistry between Miles and Willow is electric, making the book immensely enjoyable. Starting off as friends, their connection is strained when Willow's heart is shattered by Miles' brother. The banter between them is perfection, though occasionally dark and twisty, and Miles' unwavering acceptance of Willow, faults and all, is honestly heart-melting. Beyond the physical aspect of their relationship, it becomes evident that genuine care exists between these characters. Miles wants to free Willow from the demons that hold her back, while Willow wants to shield Miles from her own issues so he can move forward with his life, and so she can escape the Whiteshaw boys with minimal damage. Amidst the shocking moments that characterize this dark romance, and for me there were a lot, it's critical to remember that, at its core, this is a story of love and the complexities of human emotions. The emotions and affection, particularly from Miles, leap off the page, intertwining with Willow's anxieties and pain. There exists a delicate power balance, showcased as acts of protection and love.

Navigating to the more challenging aspects of the book, it's important to acknowledge that SECRET OBSESSION features acts that are non-consensual/dubiously consensual. PLEASE always read the trigger warnings when starting any dark romance. However Massery handles these scenes with care. Also these scenes serve a significant purpose in establishing the characters' connection. While it may not be immediately clear to the reader, and still invasive and violating, Willow's perspective on the matter provides a different lens to view these scenes.

I loved all the surprise POV’s in this book, not only did we get our two mains but we had some familiar characters back. It was nice to get into their heads and see where they are now!

SECRET OBSESSION stands as the darkest installment yet in the series, given its consistent exploration of dubious and non-consensual encounters in my opinion. Miles, being a goalie, embodies a slightly deranged personality, I mean who willingly puts themselves in harm's way for a game?? If readers are willing to embrace a story that delves into the dynamics of a dominant man in complete love with a sad woman who must learn to submit, SECRET OBSESSION is the book to read.

Enjoyed the shit out of this! Finished in one day!
