A really wonderful read, well realised with fantastic characterisation and a thorough exploration of life in 1910s Brooklyn. It took me a while to get into but I loved it in the end.

After a slow start, I fell in love with this book! I listened to it on CD and enjoyed, the various voices. It's a classic story of growing up in poverty with a tight-knit family. It explores many themes, including family, education, growing up, and overcoming barriers. I love Francie Nolan!

A truly wonderful book! I don’t think I would have ever read it if not for “When Books Went to War”, which touches on the importance of this book for soldiers in WW2. I found this comforting, touching and inspiring. Would highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a coming-of-age story.

This book is a literal masterpiece. The way the reader stays with Francie as she grows and learns and observes is so cool. This is a book that is timeless. Francie is struggling through poverty and trying to find joy in the small things. This story of perseverance is just beautiful. And the descriptive language in this book is honestly some of the best I have ever read. I’m so glad I finally got around to reading this. I was so sad to leave this world when the book ended. It really sucks you in, despite the story being extremely simple. Just following a young girl growing up in Brooklyn through poverty and trying to get by. I feel like I will never forget this book, and I might return to this one again and again.
